i'm not sure what i even read, it was all a blur and i'm not curious enough to re-read it and figure out if it was bad translations or if the work itself feels this empty.

Something about this series made it feel very sterile and emotionless... maybe it’s the lack of screentone that leaves the art in stark black and white, maybe it’s the fact that the MC’s facial expressions never changed even if he was surprised, happy, sad, or angry. I really wanted to like this series, because the story seemed sweet and the writing was decent, but for a story about bringing color into a lonely person’s life, Futari Bocchi no Shokutaku was disappointingly washed-out and drab in terms of both feelings evoked and impressions left.

I really enjoyed the first story. You can feel Natsuo's loneliness and how Keisuke's presence in his life manages to anchor some happiness there. It's fortunate that a nice guy like Keisuke dropped in on him instead of someone else, but as Natsuo said, he had nothing and felt nothing, ready to die anyday. It's nice that he was given some hope and vision for a future just by meeting a stranger.

I didn't really care for the second story as much. The characters are way less developed and just given a generic past. I didn't feel any emotions there except for the juvenile jealousy and possessiveness. There's barely any tension between the two characters. I did like the girl character, however.

The main story is very gentle and sweet. I’m kinda tried of the whole “taking in a stranger off the street” trope in BL but this ended up nice.
I liked that in the second story, the female friend and shy MC don’t take any shit from the other MC.

Though the art was clean, it was a bit uninspired.

Characters are pretty cute and they serve their purposes for the slice-of-life nature of these stories. There's barely any substance to them though, which means the manga is also pretty forgettable. There isn't exactly a climax or any accent in the narrative to leave an impact on readers. At least the art is good, I suppose.
