Unexpected

When I decided to read this, I wasn't very excited from the start, then came the art and I was like "God, this is so bad, looks so old". So I decided to look for spoilers at Google Images, that was when I decided... "Now this goes right to 'Unfinished' list". But, when I got here, it was full of positive reviews so I did a 90° turn (but not 180°) and decided to read some before deciding.

I'm glad I didn't drop this.

The art gets better with time, Ren's face changed SO MUCH like, did he get surgery? Well, the art got better but I didn't mind it much because my attention was at the plot.
The thing with Hirose could've been done better though, they just let him off like "You did this, such a bad boy, but we forgive you, just don't do it again". Hell no, Hirose is a bastard that should be in jail.

A Good Read

Holy art evolution Batman!! If you've ever wanted to experience the transformation of old 90's art to the more shoujo and pretty 21st century art this is the story for you ( or Kusatta Kyoushi no Houteishiki which is longer) Otherwise I really liked this story. I thought all the characters were likable (yes even the psychotic one that I really wanted to kill at one point) I liked the growing attraction and the lead up to sex. It's also one of the rare "train your seme" manga where the first uke becomes the seme and it works. Everyone's feelings are so complicated and you might not always agree with their thoughts but I felt that none of their decisions were out of character or completely unreasonable.

Great read!

Boys Love with more than 1 volume is reason enough for me to read it haha, and I was not disappointed!
It's not perfect, it has it's flaws but it also has a lot of good points.

The art style starts out very 'ugly' to me personally but you can see the improvements in pretty much every chapter, even though in the last volumes, some facial expressions reminded me of other mangaka (Sadahiro Mika and Abe Miyuki) but aside from that, the mangaka draws very well later on, with good anatomy and smut scenes!

If you're like me and you enjoy character development and prefer their interaction to random and sudden, meaningless sex scenes then you'll probably like this manga! The pacing is GREAT!
It is slow but keeps one interested and on the edge of the seat in anticipation!
And when things do happen, they are satisfying and make one feel good!

There's drama, hurt, angst, heartache, romance... some of everything and it's well implemented and the story-flow feels natural!
I started really liking the characters, even the 'bad guy' was not so shallow that you'd just hate him, no, I had sympathy for him as well!

As for the bad sides... for me it felt the end came a bit too sudden though that might just be the effect of the slow paced manga that it is... I also don't agree with everything the characters do or say but hey, they are 'their own people' so who am I to tell them how to react to something? (that's something lots of people need to keep in mind in general)

All in all, I really loved this manga. So much satisfaction from the long awaited love scenes and romantic development between the characters is really rare, and I enjoyed every moment of it!
Recommended to anyone who looks for more than just 1-chapter-quick-smut stuff!

Its just a typical yaoi with sad family, homosexuality, sad past, one-night-stands, live-in lover, creepy ex and of course throw in some rape at the end. To be honest, I got bored at some parts. The characters dont strike me as anything special but I guess the length of the story helps to like them a little.
One thing bugs me is the idea of sex.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Yeah, blah blah blah about having sex with the one u love is special. Next chapter, let count how many partners this guy has. The blah blah blah, "he is a kid, so I did all kid of thing except going all the way". Im sorry u already cross the line the second u touch him, not just the last step. And just because of not doing the last step, he has the excuse of sleeping with all the guys and gals. What a way to destroy the beautiful talk about lust and what not.

Im not sure about the ending with the ex at all. Even the wife thinks OK and everyone forgives the guy easily, I still feel horrified to see 2 children raised by that kind of man (no love, just greedy and abusive). I mean the first one didnt change him, why would the second one does? Naive.
After all, its better than the average yaoi out there but definitely not something I say the best, or amazing.

It's hard to find a good yaoi manga that is not 100% shonen-ai and has a plot.
This has the prefect balance. It never felt rushed, or forced, and the chemistry was there. It was nice to see the character development and growth in this piece.
Not many yaoi mangas get it right, but this piece definitely did.

LOVED ITT!!! absolutely!!
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
omg the poor youji :( like he put up with sooo much shit! like, deep shit! and he still had the confidence to stay! i mean like not everyone has that amount of confidence in his love 4 that person, i think he deserves a statue or something! LOL

when Ren said "ur gonna regret this", U ARE!! U ARE GONNA REGRET NOT READING THIS!!
so go and READ IT!!!
omg is just the angst! that drives u insane! cause u understand that they love each other but they see their relationship from different points of view! and i mean REALLY different points!
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
i mean look at Ren.. he just doesn't want to drag the poor youji down with him cause he nows he's a mess!! too high maintenance for a kid! cause let's all accept the fact that he IS a kid! he's in high school!!
and if we see it from the Youji point of view well... he doesn't have it any easy, cause he its only torturing himself thinking im I NOT ENOUGH? like.. WHY WHY HE DOESN'T LOVE ME?! , he it's a little kid that still dreams with a prince and princess and the happy ever after endings, cause he sees it all so easy, in his mind it's all just if we love each other WHY can't we be together?

If i could rate this with a 100 BELIEVE ME I WOULD!! LOL

Hmm...I thought Youji was pretty much like a brat at first and somehow he's a bit similar to Hirose but gradually he has changed into someone who is much more softer and very much matured which I find it...very nice. I like how he can actually grow more and more in the story. But for some reason, I kinda dislike how Ren is growing in the story. I mean, he did grow pretty strong and I like that. But the way he goes around sleeping with other people makes me think how stupid he is even though he kept on acting like as if he's very strong and all. The story is nice, but I doubt that it's something that I will re-read.

Okkkay, I saw that the last couple of chapters are finally scanlated so I re-read & finished this manga. What can I say? I'm absolutely overwhelmed, and feel sweet warmth right now. A stunning masterpiece, this manga is.

The art does start off 90ish, but it then develops really pretty. The last volume can't even be compared to the first one. (I'd say it's similar to how Love Mode's style developed) Also I liked how the character's design changed as they matured, especially concerning Youji. (Well, okay, somewhere in the middle Ren seemingly started aging backwards like Gravitation's Shuuichi, but it was temporary, fortunately, and the great storyline quickly made me forget about it)

As for the story, I couldn't ask for more. It was subtle, beautiful, interesting and since the romance progressed rather slowly, my heart was beating so hard by the time they reached the C level in their relationship that I thought I was going to die from sheer happiness. It was paced perfectly, I loved every kiss, every touch, every look. And do not forget about the reversible. Boy, did I love the reversible!
The Hurt/Comfort was told in a very nice way as well, Youji's a character you gotta fall in love with. Ren is lovely too, especially after he finally managed to put his past behind him. (Oh, and DIE Hirose!)

I must mention the side characters as well. I found Hiromi, Youji's now ex-GF charming, which is a rareness in BL manga. It was also funny how she was a fujoshi who drew yaoi manga, and
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
after she recovered from their break-up, she even joked with his friend about his ex turning gay.
She and her friend often said the exact thing I thought while reading, and I liked it. smile

And there's also Sakai. Ooh, Sakai was a brilliant character! Started off as deliquient, but it turned out he's a real good guy. I loved his relationship with Youji
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
as an almost-friend with whom Youji could share his problems and from whom he got tips and info and advice (based on Sakai's brief past homo experience, hehe). I guess it was somewhere in the 5th volume that Youji was moping and then Sakai went to him and said "Go on. Big brother will listen". I almost melted from these sentences It was really lovely.
I can see them being not publicly confirmed best friends. smile

I'm very content with the ending. It is a wonderful, unique manga which can be enjoyed fully scanlated now (thank you, Biblo Eros!), so I strongly encourage every BL-loving reader to give it a go. I'm sure you won't regret it. wink
