Good, for the most part.

Very engaging worldbuilding and a diverse cast that kept things interesting throughout, even if the most developed ones are Vash, Wolfwood, Knives and some of the Gung-Ho Guns. The guns are big, the proportions are highly stylized, and Knives was a genuinely interesting antagonist.

Still, the manga was really brought down by the art. Don't get me wrong — the two-page spreads are absolutely gorgeous, but the fight scenes that take up a large part of the manga are nigh-incomprehensible. I found myself reading only the speech bubbles and glancing at the art, because it was almost impossible for me to tell whether someone was getting punched or shot, or if they dodged it. Even so, I will say that the latter half has much better art than the first half.

I'm giving it such a high rating because the worldbuilding is cool as hell, for the occasional two-page spreads, for the compelling characters (especially Wolfwood and Knives), and for the fight scenes that are fairly tense (when I could tell what was happening).

What is a perfect character?

If you were to define a perfect character what would it be?

Vash is by no means a perfect character by the people today's standard. He is flawed yet in a way that gives him a charm that you could enjoy and love, hate and dislike and still enjoy his adventure.

He may be an Legendary Outlaw, a fool, a righteous man, a humanoid typhoon but he will forever be a believer for Love and Peace

For me he is perfectly flawed.

Vash is a character I adore. Probably the 10 might be force, since I adore the character, but he is after all the main part of this story. I will probably update my review when I am done reading Maximum, but I had to say this.

People that complain that he is goodie two shoes, obviously point out his main characteristic. But These people are probably either people that a) Have not read long enough to realize he has a reason or b) do not care what is the reason of him so STUPIDLY denying of killing, even to protect the ones he loves.

Vash is haunted in a way by Rem and his love for her. He vowed to her he would never kill and thus he upholds that vow, no matter what. If Vash fears something, is not just to kill and break his vow, as much as killing and losing Rem. He feels Rem is always with him and if he will break his promise, that will make him lose her.

Mind you, I am not saying he is not ABSOLUTELY STUPID for not breaking his promise, to save the living and breathing friends of his. I am just saying that it is better to connect it to fear. It will make people stop wanting to femaledogslap the heck out of Vash.

Annoying.

As said below, the characters are annoyingly "good", which means they laud way too unrealistic and simple-minded ideals, unfit to the setting of the story, and the plot that unfolds from here is accordingly lacking.
Such half-assed "noble" values tend to make me cringe. I've read more than half of the manga so far, but I'm not sure I will be able to finish. Every time Vash starts acting all heroic/pure/martyr-like, I just feel the urge to smack my head against the wall, which is not healthy... (~‾▿‾)~

Worth reading

The manga might have many flaws, crappy art at the beginning (but improves with every chapter), angels for the scenes are sometimes vexing and not well choosen also the composition of the scenes is in some chapters irritating and confusing. But it makes up with an unique hero, interesting story and the great western feeling unfortunately, for me because I love western, in the later chapters the Sci-Fi is more and more the main theme. The ending was nice, not brilliant but I wasn't disappointed. There may be better mangas but all in all Trigun is worth your time.

Hmm, I really like this manga and as mentioned it's far better than the anime, still for me there are some missing things to make this a 10/10, the art is very good, the story also starts of very good, but for me gets "too complicated", too crowded (dunno how to say). This whole "spaceship battle against the bad person who apocalypse" stuff irritates me, but nonetheless its very good 8.5/10

Great manga

Great followup to a very interesting manga. This one sidesteps away from the pure old western shooter Trigun had and sticks in a heavy dosage of Sci-Fi into it, a REALLY heavy dosage. There's still some shooting but it doesn't have that western feeling anymore.

The artist keeps on drawing better right off the bat. One would think that a manga artist reaches his peak after the first few volumes but this guy continuously improves his work. More or less around chapter 73 the artwork is amazing and has no comparison to what the first volume of Trigun was (out of place doodles).

The plot is also very good. Very catching and always intriguing. Really a great choice if you like adventure and Sci-Fi. Don't forget to read Trigun before reading Trigun Maximum, this one's the sequel.
