I love Yoshinaga Fumi!

All My Darling Daughters is, as said in the summary, a collection of stories revolving around an interconnected cast of characters reflecting on their lives, love and the world. It touches upon themes of family, societal roles and female/male gender expectations. Like every another work of hers, Yoshinaga Fumi is just so good at what she does; she makes her characters realistic and heartfelt with a sweet, almost simple art style. The story about Makimura and the middle school friends was probably my favorite.

You are too good for me...

Spoiler (highlight to view)
"That's too good for me."... "She said I was too good for her."..."He's too good for me. Please turn him down politely."..."She is my own child but she's too good for me."
A timid female student approachs the lecturer... She thinks that when the a man has sex with a girl, it's for the girl but they like it best when a girl does it to him with her mouth. So she forced the lecturer (the guy she likes better than the type she used to date) to let her do the blow job everyday at his office @_@ but refused to have sex with him and finally rejected the lecturer when he tried to get know her in the normal way - asking her out for a date. The only reason is the "too good" reason. What a wierd girl!
Forcible fellatio is a weird way to get to know someone. But that girl cannot do it the way people always do, because... it's too good for her :(
She did not ask anything in return, not even a cup of coffee, not sex, not a real relationship... She only want to make the guy she likes "feel good"... but the truth is that she can only make the lower part of that guy "feel good"... the guy actually felt like he's been forced into it, feeling guilty and disatisfied. When the guy realises his feelings for the girl and want to go back to where the thing between them went wrong, the girl rejected him cruelly. That girl is in fact very selfish, she really does not care how the guy sees her, how he feels about her, etc... She totally ignored all those things... then how the guy can really "feel good" :D
I really do feel sorry for that lecturer...

Another wonderful work...

Yoshinaga always has a great way of expressing tension and emotion in very simple settings and drawings. She is very good at picking up on the human elements; the sometimes inconstant nature of real people and the faults they sometimes forget they have.

I really identified with the daughter finally viewing her mother as a woman, a person, not just as some role model or archetype. That her mother shared her same desire to be loved and to able to love that person in return. I'm about the same age as the protagonist and so a lot of the things she was going through were pretty familiar.
