This is probably the top xianxia MC that I've gotten lot of good laughs from. He actually has a personality and brains instead of the usual power up and kill all who oppose me MC. It mixes politics with fighting. If you enjoy ATG or TMW's MC, this one is right up there. The time travelling and plot holes take a while to clear up though.

Personally i do enjoy reading TTNH. It feels like a mix of xianxia and wuxia.

What i like about TTNH is that unlike most xianxia novels, it primarily focus on court politics, cunning & guile, stealth, assassinations, scheming & undermining, strategy & tactics and especially subterfuge. Some readers might find this boring as it lacks head on confrontations, hardcore fighting & flowery martial techniques as well as the exponential increase in power as you level up your cultivation that are rampant in the xianxia genre. It is out of the norm and feels totally different from xianxia novels like CD, CSG, MGA, ATG etc. Review by fact12345 below addresses this issue and is accurate. Therefore do note this novel is not for everyone. I love these unorthodox elements so this novel was a perfect read for me.

What disappoints me though are: the MC(character wise), romance(drama) and sidekick(sword spirit). The first point is not really that big of a deal, i actually like his character as being ruthless, brutal, cunning schemer, amazing tactician and an intellectual individual however he has a very strong sense of justice and exceedingly high moral values. The irony and contradiction. How can you be a grand schemer and strategist when you are not willing to make sacrifices? It is not realistic. A leader and strategist cannot see things as black and white, they need to see everything in shades of grey. There is no right or wrong, good or bad answer, only solutions. Victory is measured in blood, your's and your enemies. Author has chose to suppress this fact thus the MC is portrayed to be a naive hero. Though everything always works out in the end of course since he is the protagonist. I was also hoping that at least the author throws in impactful consequences of his morally upright decisions but alas it is not to be. Really a shame...

Now the romance, in summary, they tend to get in the way of the plot and pacing. Extremely annoying. Why? Too much drama. Don't get me wrong, i like the romance in TTNH but unfortunately it turned into a friggin jap/korean/chinese soap opera. Which end up killing the mood and pacing of the story more often then not. Here we are in the middle of an epic battle to decide the fate of the universe and the characters are still wholly concerned only on their friggin love affairs, love triangles, unrequited love, lovers misunderstandings and whatever else. This happens frequently throughout the novel as if to serve as a constant reminder to readers.

Lastly, the sidekick which comes in the form of a Sword Spirit inside him. He is basically a one stop solution to every problem/obstacle in the novel fiction/lore and every defect in the writing.
Don't understand something? Sword Spirit is an encyclopedia with all the answers to the world.
Need something? Brother Sword Spirit is a factory/warehouse.
Enemies too strong? Come, let uncle Sword Spirit possess your body and roflstomp your enemies.
I thought he couldn't be resurrected? Grandfather Sword Spirit 'suddenly' has revive skill.
Shit is going down? Great-grandfather Sword Spirit can perform miracles!
Wait, i thought this was explained to be impossible early on in the novel? Haha, well not anymore, ancestor Sword Spirit can defy all logic and paradox!!!
You can see where this is going? Its counter intuitive to the character progression, plot buildup as well as storyline. Its so bad that every question, mystery, plot hole, obstacle etc all points to 1 answer and reason, Sword Spirit.

Overall, TTNH is a good read, mainly because its unique. If you're looking for something with plenty of fights then you're barking at the wrong tree. The 3 cons i've mentioned does bring down the score a lot as they get unchecked and widespread later on in the novel which is pretty much aggravating.

ok for this novel i think solid 7/10 and it can be better if the author really know how to describe the skill that all the character used. ( sry for my bad english )

seriously this novel series is really lacking in describing the skill. Just from what i read until chapter 600+ every character have many skill, example : the main character as the master of nine tribulation sword have 9 movement of sword skill, BUT REALLY the author only describe the first movement of sword skill where its produce of cold air when attacking, but what is the describtion of other skill? the author only just telling the name of the other 8 sword skill then the enemies die ... like really?

THIS novel really lacking how to describe a skill should be visualized.. it can be better than 7/10 if the author take more effort in explaining the visual movement of the skill

this novel is somehow lacking fantasy element even with many of the precious medicine that somehow the main character found it by very exaggerated luck.., my opinion was this novel having too many major drama rather than something worthy called "world of martial arts" and the non described movement of the skill that all the character used its a big fail for *martial arts*

if u are just start reading for the combat at this novel, its good until starts going really downhill and bad around chapter 100-150. From chapter 150 to 600 from what i see was too many politic and building drama (story) rather than worthy combat scene.

UNLESS the author just want this novel to be more focused on political and the drama (story), rather than martial arts element*. (honestly the description of this novel its wrong, the description have more meaning to "martial arts" but to think that its more focused on political and drama (story)...sigh!!)

conclusion : the drama ( story ) its good since its focused on politic, but the combat feels too many assassination (which mean the author cannot describe good battle scenery)

This is a story (so far up to ch 132) about military conflict. The backdrop used is cultivation and sects but they are more spice then the actual focus of the story.

There are some really big plotholes in this timetravelstory and its for sure not the writers forte.

F*ck who give yaoi tag to this one, i read till chap 116 there is no BL, all i saw is bromance but thats it, not like naruto x sasuke "bromance" that we assume them as lover, it feel like Gon x Killua bromance

The only problem I have with the novel is that the author uses several paragraphs to describe everything. To me, it messes up the flow of the story, so I skip about a third of each chapter. Other than the problem I mentioned, I like the story and the characters.

I like how this novel have a decent plot


MC is OP with mysterious background and great masters to boost


Although we love harem but sincere and serious relationship is also nice

-MC was already the master of the sword and was a powerful expert, His mature personality or his old self was what sent in the past to over rule the old weak self in the past. Technically speaking there was no change at all in his personality. As most MC who return to the past they are just already old enough even if there body is just of a child.

ok, I read the first chapter again and concede my mistake. But if you read the third chapter carefully you will notice a confusing part. in the third chapter mc is in past and 16 years old. he reminisce that four years later when he will be 20, the sect will be attacked and destroyed. it is also around that time when he truly started to rise on power and also found the first piece of the sword.
now if you read a little further into the same chapter, you will notice that the mc stated that he was bought four year into the past. don't you think it's impossible logic. or is it a plothole. because according to first chapter mc has gathered all sword pieces and was/Will be a revered sword artist four years ago/after the timeline of third chapter ??!
