Frustrating

God of Dogs starts in the middle of a major storyline and jumps from place to place. The worst part of all is that the reader is never introduced to the characters, making the story static at best.
The second negative comment I have to make has to do with the translation June has given the story. I think it would have been much better to leave the original context of the story instead of changing it to fit the American readers.

For those of you who haven't read the prequel, Charisma, this series is going to be too confusing to fully enjoy. Unfortunately for most Yaoi fans, Charisma has not been scanlated.

There is so much backstory here, it's really confusing to read.
I'm going to have to track down Charisma online and read that first.
This book is not "complete" either - there will definitely be a sequel at some point. The mangaka herself says so in the author's notes.

The art is lovely, classic Ishihara and immediately recognisable by fans of Kimi Shiruya.

It wasn't until I read the other user's comment that I understood why this volume was so confusing. You feel like you're watching the second part of a trilogy without the benefit of having seen the first. There are dozens of characters, none of whom are introduced. You're expected to jump in and understand it all.

To top it off, there's no real ending. I have to wonder if part three is out there somewhere.

That said, the story is intriguing. The artwork isn't the best I've seen (understatement) but the story is far more complex than the average BL tale. I hope there is more. Now I must run off to find the beginning of the story, and hope to God that there's an end.

June makes a major misstep

I have read and enjoyed Charisma so I enjoyed this semi-sequel, but I can imagine for those who haven't read Charisma would find this confusing and seemingly pointless. I feel that June has made a big mistake of publishing God of Dog before Charisma. I don't understand why they did this because God of Dogs doesn't do well as a standalone. It's a strange decision on their part.
