The premise of the story is pretty good actually, and the art is stunning. I have to say, I didn't end up finishing this one because I just couldn't stand the main girl. She was pretty cute in the beginning (I like my tsunderes) but she gradually got more and more repetitive and... well, spoilt.
In general though, I'd say quite a typical shoujo so check it out if you're into period pieces. I didn't finish it so it might have gotten better in the end.

I'm specifically referring to the part where her stepmother comes to the main house and MC is all "No, I can't let her see Retsu, it'll all be ruined..." - maybe it's just the phrasing of the thing? It just really rubbed me the wrong way. I also didn't like how she even feels that way - have some faith in your man, hun! Every chapter is basically about the girl not feeling like she's worthy of the dude's love and the dude somehow proving it to her again and again. It just got to the point where I don't understand why Retsu was pining after her for 12 years, it literally makes no sense.
In general though, I'd say quite a typical shoujo so check it out if you're into period pieces. I didn't finish it so it might have gotten better in the end.
