This shits on the medium called "Light novel".
This novel feels like a real book with real characters and development.
Even though the narrative is very main-character centric like most LNs, the plot calls for it.
No fluff will be found here.
The manga adaptation is alright, but it misses out on a lot of details, especially the amazing world building this provides.

My only (tiny) beef is how many moe/tropes the author felt compelled to layer on the female mechanic... oh Japan...
