Suffocating

The first chapters took all my attention as I could see the potential of a sweet and heart-warming relationship, I loved how the seme conveyed his love through those impressive lines, and he was the character that made me read until the end. However, there were so many unreasonable painful incidents that I couldn’t bring myself to enjoy it despite the beautiful love of those two and the expected happy ending. And the painful effect was so strong on me that I don’t think I’ll ever forgive that disgusting old man (who even got a spin-off).

However, I was satisfied by the fact that **SPOILER ALERT** after those uncompelling nauseating actions that old man did to the uke, both of them took revenge of him, otherwise it would feel like the uke consented. But still, why did that have to happen with the uke, I am not convinced by the so-called “your father’s replacement to lure him” thing at all.

I think this is too much for me to ever re-read.

Normally Scarlet Beriko hits it out of the park with characters, but in this series she falls kinda short. Tatsuyuki is a typical yakuza dork, but I really don't like the way Nozomi was characterized. He was just a genki creep who was wayyyyy too into Tatsuyuki, especially towards the beginning. And then the plot made no sense for the characters with so little background info, especially the Tatsuyuki being Rogi's prisoner plot! I was like wtf?! I know Jealousy exists, but it would make more sense if we had all that background info before the kidnapping, which is just bad storytelling. It just seemed way too weird to have some comedy slice-of-life characters thrown into such a dark, hardcore plot.

Honestly, despite being a fucking weird ass creep, Rogi was my favorite character. He was the most round, different, and most mysterious! The other characters were severely lacking so I latched onto him. I'll be reading the Jealousy series after this, which is all about him, so I'm glad. He really piqued my interest in the final extra, when he tells his daughter that she is the only one who loves him.

Honestly this series just looks like sensei thought of Rogi's character first and threw together this stupid plot to set up for his introduction.

Man I really am a sucker for yakuza manga aren't I. I loooove the couple's dynamic and they are both super likeable characters. Just wish it had been wrapped up in a slightly more cohesive way and possibly fleshed out a bit more. I really love Tatsuyuki.

Pretty art, questionable plot

Undoubtedly, I LOVED the art of this manga. The plot, not so much. While it wasn't terrible, and definantly had some cute moments, there was a lot of stuff that seemed random and hard to follow. However, the actual relationship between the main characters was super cute.

read if you are looking for quality smut and cute characters, avoid if you are triggered by graphic rape/violence

I guess it was okay, tho I hate how they first had sex (it was rape, for goddamn sake!!!) i like megane kun's sincerity (tho it bugged me that the uke was the one who made coffee...THINK ABOUT HIS HIPS, WILL YA!!!)

Surprisingly decent, fantastic art. Also much darker than I suspected.

I didn't like this...

Like the user below me said (and I thought I was the only one who felt that way), the motives behind many of the characters' actions were EXTREMELY vague. There was no build or valid progression or anything, so I was a bit slow on the uptake as far as pacing was concerned (or lack there of).

The characters were just... They were not portrayed in a sympathetic light at all with the exception of glasses guy; he was probably the only character that made any sense. Though what he did in the beginning was thoroughly fucked up, I can at least understand why he did what he did--not "agree"..."understand." That being said, the situation he grew up in was abnormal beyond belief, so there's no wonder he felt justified in doing what he did--given how "love" was expressed to him as a child, I was not at all surprised by it. I was disturbed by it, but not surprised. He was understandably scarred and insecure as an adult because of his ruined childhood. I felt terrible for what he had to go through as a child.

The old creepy guy really, truly pissed me off, and the fact that he was still allowed to interact with the other guys and make light of all the atrocious shit that he did--and still got a fucking spin off like he even fucking deserves one--made me so angry that I could have punched someone. Also, one event in the dead center of the series alluded to the fact that Tatsuyuki could have avoided his encounter with the old ass wipe after all. It was as simple as that, so why didn't he? *sigh* In reading this manga, I ended up feeling like I'd been trolled hard by the mangaka, tbh.

I know that this series and "Saezuru tori wa Habatakanai" are two completely different manga, so comparing them would be like comparing apples and oranges, but it too deals with gratuitous sexual encounters, childhood traumas, unrequited love and feelings of hopelessness/helplessness. It is also is filled to the brim with shades of gray and splashes of beautiful light in an otherwise dark, gritty atmosphere. However, Saezuru flows much better, is beautifully executed and is actually quite enjoyable. This though? No, absolutely not.

That's just my opinion though. Read if you're curious.

Very pretty porn

Despite the attempt at drama and a more mature story, this manga ultimately boils down to some gratuitous porn with a relatively elaborate setting of a make-believe fantasy. For what it's worth, the smut is really well-drawn and actually quite tasteful, and even though the characters are designed to be more buff, the sex doesn't get hammy or in-your-face at all. It's graphic with the right amount of tact. Lol I can't believe I'm discussing porn now.

That's pretty much where positive features end though. I won't even try to make sense of the jumbled story, or the weird pacing, or the lack of cohesion, or the inept explanation of motives behind each character's actions and all that. I was fairly impressed with the manga this one was based on (Minori no Te), but even that one isn't stellar in the storytelling department either, and only had strong characters to drive the story forward. I failed to feel anything for most of the characters here, and the questionable sequences of events that follow every threads of drama doesn't really help change that. I wish the manga hadn't tried to present its theme with such a serious approach when it so severely lacks the needed depth to believably pull it off.

If it was fleshed out just a biiiiit more on the story, it would be good! I liked it, I really did. Even if it was a bit too much smut for my taste, I am a sucker for the dark-past-thingy.

I would recommend it to the folks that need something a tad different than the rest of the yakuza yaoi out there.

damn marvelous! it's worth an all-nighter

Honestly it's the best yaoi I've read in a past few months. It's just awesome, basically because of the strong, complex plot (full of twists), fast pace, the storytelling and of course the characters - they have unique, rich personalities, bright or cunning, perverted or not - it doesn't matter, cause in the end they're all likeable. If you add a lot of humour, beautiful, expressive art and hot graphic sex you'll receive a perfect story, just like this one. I went through an emotional roller-coaster with the main couple, there's so much love, so much pain and loneliness that it makes the story bittersweet. I really love the characters here, all of them, they're so... human.

I couldn't stand the excitement to read the next chapter and find out what's gonna happen next so I put an all-nighter to finish reading. I don't regret this. I can point at many other good things about this manga but it'd be boring, so I'll stop.

There are many yaoi about yakuza, and this is one of the best of them. If you like deep, dark, real life-like stories, nudity and reading between the lines - pick it up.
