the growth isn't linear, but the MC struggles and grows and there's a lot of real, interesting depth to the story rather than 'same kind of conflict but bigger scale" or something of that nature. very enjoyable.

Anthem for independent women

I almost stopped reading four chapters in, since I hate consumerism and didn't know if I could tolerate the setting. I'm glad that I kept with it though. Ultimately the small gripes or personality clashes I have with this manga are overwritten by how well it handles the various issues that women traditionally face as women, including the idea that men are more entitled to work, the workplace dynamics of being a mother, lack of childcare options, etc... I loved how the MC valued her independence and acknowledged the importance of existing as an individual rather than just part of a pair or 'someone's wife', and I'm delighted that she ended up with a man who respected that. Great read.

Atypical Manga Heroine

Due to the patriarchal norms still prevalent in Japanese society, even the best of manga tend to revert originally powerful female heroines to submissive, weak wallflowers once they fall in love. This manga has some faults, but this is not one of them. The heroine is capable of making the best decisions for herself and for her own life from beginning to end and the mangaka deserves a bravo for being able to push this forward in the japanese market that normally seems to want to hear none of it. This is also distinctly different from her other famous work on the restaurant business, where the MC remains subservient to her love interest throughout.

great josei

1. It's not cliche. It's interesting and I can't guess what will happen next. I find this manga very unique.
2. The characters are strong, believable and very human. No annoying tripping/fainting heroines.
3. It's not just romance manga.
4. I find manga about work, career very interesting. I love reading about selling strategies in this manga. For the same reason I love Sekaiichi Hatsukoi, I lot of it is about work and very exciting. Japanese are amazing hard-working people, and so devoted to their job (of course not all of them, talking abut majority here)
5. Read this if you love clothes, dressing up, looking good... This manga makes me feel like putting something nice on wink

Materialism seeps in to the very fabric.

It is interesting to see how a clothing shop (or more accurately, department store) operates; how decision is made, how costumer react, how the wants and needs perceived and played through and through. But within that same story, lies the unsavory truth that materialism had seeped there to stay. And people trapped within it can't escape since they awaken to idea that that materialistic lifestyle is the essence of the world we live in. They are helpless. In this manga, "Clothing is absolute necessity to present oneself, and one cannot be presentable without all that good clothing."

I am disgusted.
Yet entertained.

Oh, that annoying 'common girl meet prince charming' cliche still run here. Dunno if she managed to bag him. I haven't read far.

Great television drama

Watched the TV drama of Real Clothes after reading the manga, enjoyed the show much more than the manga, but would recommend reading the manga first to see the time Kinue spent working in the bed department, and to learn a bit more about other characters as well. Kinue is very likeable in the show, offers many good comedic moments. Much better than The Devil Wears Prada.

A light read

Basically, a "working girl" type of story. The tone is a bit similar to her Oishii Kankei. It's about an underdog working to gain acknowledgement from those around her along with a boost of self-confidence and a passion for her career. However, since this is about fashion, it reminded me a bit of the movie version of The Devil Wears Prada. The heroine is not very fashionable (for now) and the boss is a fashionista, maybe even a fashion nazi... If you liked the movie, I'm sure you'll like this particular manga.
