Ridiculously good?
by NightAir

Honestly, it's not too ridiculously tropey at all and takes a slice-of-life look at it. I clicked on it and saw the first picture (of Min Gyeom tugging Chun Sam's collar, probably was the credits page), and I thought to myself 'okay, this is gonna be a push-and-pull dynamic I hope', and it really is. It's chalk full of understandable misunderstandings, but the two of them are connected through the whole vampire thing. Min Gyeom has a really upsetting past, honestly, but I honestly relate with how he processes situations, and how he reacts as a result. God, I really love this webcomic? It's a side of really sweet developmental because you can see how much they care about each other (WHICH IS THE THING I DIG THE MOST), but it's also what's keeping them apart because they're unsure about the other person's feelings/misunderstanding/not communicating (for obvious reasons that make sense because they hardly know each other all that well), etc.

It's so good. I hope it updates soon. I honestly think korean webcomics have seriously got it going on--I've grown up on manga, and I have to say these guys know how to tell a story for sure.

There are things I hate but it's addictive

I honestly read all the chapters released so far in one go. I was very intrigued to see what happens next.

I'd be much more pleased, though:
a) if Chun Sam was the first man Min Gyeom had slept with,
b) if Min Gyeom hadn't trusted his coworker and told him his story at that time and
c) if his coworker hadn't succeeded in seperating these 2 then
but instead was hit by a flaming truck a couple of chapters after he was introduced to the story.

I also hate the fact that Min Gyeom was traumatized so much by his coworker and had almost killed himself because of him. I've noticed that Min Gyeom isn't that much invested in Chun Sam and he was very cautious and wary of him even after they made up but he trusted his coworker like it was the most natural thing to do from the get-go.

Basically, the romance of the main couple took a long detour until it was fully developed and I found that unnecessary. It made people question the protagonists' feelings for each other and the way they handled many situations made it seem like they didn't like each other that much...

What should be noted, though is that out of this manhwa we get to see that the only people that treated Min Gyeom properly were not actually humans, showing that you can't actually tell who the real monsters are...

It started off SO good!!!

The beginning of this manhwa was amazing! I'm very picky when it comes to mangas/manhwa, and I was pretty much hooked from chapter 1. I inhaled everything that was available within one sitting, and didn't even notice the time. I was completely captivated.

Around chapter 30, however, this amazing manhwa devolved into convoluted, cliche, retarded korean drama bullsh*t, and broke my heart. The story stopped making sense. The conflict became superficial. The characters started behaving in ways that made me want to tear my hair out, especially Min Gyeom.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
He slept with his sleazy coworker after a night of drinking, and thereafter decided it was too late to go back to Sam, even after Sam explained their previous misunderstanding to him. All this takes place within one day. Is this the feudal era? You accidentally slept with some guy (while drunk), so then you have to be with him for good??? This is so stupid. It tries to be angst, but it's not even good angst because it's so nonsensical and needless. If you understand that it was just a misunderstanding, then go tell your coworker you made a mistake and call it off. Big effing deal. It was only one day, not like you've been dating for years. Why turn down the guy you actually love, and who loves you back for some sleazebag you boned? Why? WHYYY??? There was literally no reason for this.

And the coworker is creepy and sleazy as hell. For some reason, however, we have to sit through long chapters about his backstory with his ex. I guess it's so we can try to understand where he's coming from. No. Just...no. Gross. This is not an interesting side character that readers care about. This is a character that needs to be hit by a truck, mourned for one panel, and then is never mentioned or seen again.

Do I recommend this manhwa? No. As much as I loved the beginning, the stupidity of the latter chapters completely ruins it for me. That makes me angrier than anything. If it was just ok, then I wouldn't care, but it was so good at the beginning! And then became so awful. I will not be finishing this. I end my read at chapter 50. I don't care to find out what happens to these characters thereafter.

Like the commenters, I liked the first few chapters of this webcomic. I felt for the MC and everything. But then everything started to take a turn. I felt like I was reading one of those shojo manga with incredibly stupid characters. The drama in the middle was so stupid and pointless. I can't even root for the main couple properly anymore because I strongly dislike the MC by this point. Or 'hate' might be a better word. He creates his own problems (in the romance aspect at least) but the love interest is the one comforting and reassuring him? What? Are the readers meant to feel sympathy for him or something? Honestly I dislike the MC even more than I do the coworker.
Just...if you can live with the protagonist pissing you off, then you can probably read this. I'm going to go look for a romance that doesn't make me want to shoot something.

I really love this webcomic!! It's really lighthearted but endearing at the same time, and I love the slow pace they go with the romance and how they give it time to develop and focus on the subtleties in the interactions between the two main leads. The characters are so cute and it's really endearing to see how they grow from the first to the latest chapter. The way the author deal with vampirism is really hilarious as well and I love how she takes a light-hearted approach to it which I find somewhat unique. The slice of life format really fits the comic. I'm so excited its still ongoing and look forward to my daily dose each week (even though I can't read korean i really enjoy looking at the raws) biggrin biggrin

Cuteness overload...Oh My Gawd!!

This manhwa is absolutely great...You can feel the fluffiness basically dripping from it...so light, heartwarming, tender....and much more. The concept is not as unique but the symbiosis really captivates me. Plus point is that both of them have such an apparent crush on each other but are totally oblivious to the others feeling. And those chibis the author makes...just too cute for words...I'm a sucker for good art.
I'm quite eager for further updates.
I wonder if there are more good shounen-ai webtoons out there cause this is probably my fourth or fifth one.
Edit: after going a bit far in the story..,,it turned out to be a sappy drama--tbh I've lost interest. I feel like the story is dragging along and I can't see much character growth either.
Edit 2: Finally, I feel like we're going somewhere. So glad that things have sorted out. I'm so glad that the MC stopped being a jerk. They're back to being a cute couple~

I Have Never Hated A Character More

I agree completely with @liontaraki's review. I really liked Min Gyeom and Chun Sam together in the beginning. Min Gyeom had a few things he needed to sort out but I was hoping he'd do that with Chun Sam by his side, even as friends.

Then they introduced the interloper. This guy. He's the main source of all the heartache in this webtoon. He annoyed me from the onset because I knew what his plot purpose was but he was even worse than I had imagined. The whole coworker escapade tore my heart to shreds, especially for poor Chun Sam. Worse yet, it made me begin to straight up loathe the main character.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I will never be able to understand someone who acts like they're so in love with another person, but at the slightest bump in the relationship they go and fuck someone else. Within, like, four hours in this instance.

It got to the point where I really just want Chun Sam to move on from Min Gyeom. I know he is the way he is because of his childhood, but that shouldn't be used as an excuse to act like he does. He used to evoke sympathy in me, now, I couldn't care less. He's a dick to Chun Sam. Plain and simple.

I actually had to do some self evaluating after thinking 'you deserve it' when Min Gyeom's world was falling apart. (¯―¯٥)

If they had never introduced the coworker or if Min Gyeom wasn't so receptive to his advances, I would have loved this webtoon. Because, it is a good story (excluding the douchenozzle) and highly addictive even with its flaws so I can only imagine how good it'd be an intruding asshole short.

If you decide to read this prepare for major feels and possible ugly crying. As for me, after skipping from chapter 40 to 77 and seeing the same old bs from Min Gyeom and not being lost (they're having the same arguments repeatedly), I'm out.

So much potential. (╥_╥)

I love this manhwa don't get me wrong here, but from the part where Min Gyeom start dating the other guy, it got SUPER cliche and slightly boring. It was a great and beautiful start but suddenly became a love triangleconfused Then some annoying affair?! Awww it ruined it for me. Still, I'm rooting for the main couple but that whole other fiasco wasn't nessaccary. He should have saved himself for the main guy!!! Arghh, irritates me... I almost feel like i just wanna ignore that whole dating thing even happened. But I will say it got slightly interesting again towards the more recent chapters, because "shockingly" they've gotten together (like they should had long time ago) and finally started their relationship. Basically what I'm saying is it started out great, flopped a bit in the middle, and is trying to pick itself up. Other than that the drawing and layout of some parts in the manhwa is creative and beautiful.

this is like the first time ive seen manga/manhwa whatever have a character that experienced abuse and deal with it realistically.

like the regular plot that yall are used to where once they feel loved their issues are fixed is so unrealistic. learning to accept love and support is a long difficult process. yes of course all the drama is "self inflicted". it comes from the CONFLICT of being an ABUSE victim and as with literally ALL STORIES conflicts need to be ACTUALLY RESOLVED and arent fixed because you fall in love. he had to learn to accept kindness and love. he had to learn to feel secure and not constantly suspect that all "good feelings" were temporary and would eventually crash down. the author referenced the abuse and rejection Min Gyeom experienced as a child SO MANY TIMES. all the times he felt any comfort with his father eventually became rejection. he learned to feel unworthy of love, to feel that it was all temporary... so of course (!!!!!) he took a long long time to accept Chun Sams love. and the love of his parents. like thats how these kinds of things work!

i loveddddd this story so so so much and i loved the main character, i think he was the best portrayal of abuse victim ive seen in a manga/manhwa ever. i think its really sad that everyone found his healing annoying and stupid

I wish it sucked because of the awful translation...

...but it actually sucked because the source material was bad. The original idea was cute and could have been perfect for a cheesy slice-of-life. But the author decided to throw in some unecessary drama while also turning the MC into the most annoying, retarded, whiny primadonna ever. Fortunately Bat Boy (sorry, not good with names) and his family kept the webtoon afloat. Kind of. They were all enjoyable characters and made me cringe a little less while reading Raising a Bat (which, by the way, is a very cute title).

I guess I should at least point out the things that didn't work but it would be an endless list. I can try, though (mild spoilers ahead, which IMO you can safely read):
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
- A clichèd shoujo girl was disguised as MC. I know guys can be feminine and I have no issue with it, but honestly apart from the first chapters MC never even once looked like a guy to me. I'm actually surprised he didn't grow tits and a subscription to Cosmopolitan by the end of the comic.
- Said MC made awful, brainless, plainly stupid choices. Like, Bat Boy confessed he cared about him. But just because he said "friend" once, MC decided to reject him and have sex with the first person he found.
- The first person he found was Artsy Boy (I know I know, sorry about the names). IMO he wasn't as bad as others described him, but he could have been developed better. His motives got explained but the reader couldn't feel them. I appreciated the author trying to develop his background story with MC Doppelganger Girl... but she failed. Artsy Boy and Doppelganger Girl were so in love... but she decided to fly to another country for two years and when she got back she was expecting him to be loyal? After losing contact for that long? Girl you're not a Junjou Egoist protagonist, so stop dreaming.
- What about the attempted suicide? It was hilarious. And they kept bringing it up just so that everyone could feel cringey- ehm, sorry for MC again and again.
- The whole "let's adopt our vampire son's boyfriend" was straight out awkward. Awkward to the max.
- Artsy Boy's little tricks and MC's over dramatic reactions made the whole thing look like a Spanish telenovela. I'm surprised nobody came out of nowhere shouting "Que haces besando a la lisiada!".
- Where does Bat Boy keep his wings??
- I can accept Bat Boy being a vampire. I can accept not having a hint of information on why vampires exist in this world. But I can't accept MC having "too much blood". Like, what the **** does it even mean?
- About MC's father... I don't know where to start. Why was he taking MC's blood? Why did he dislike MC so much? He was a super clever doctor who just couldn't get that if his wife died it wasn't his son's fault? (I mean, MC didn't choose to be the main character...)
- I still have goose bumps from the scene where Bat Boy and Easygoing Friend almost kissed because Bat Boy wanted to practice. H e l p.
- The sex scene was totally heartless and I couldn't feel anything at all. I had the impression the author didn't know how to manage this part of the story.

Okay that's it. Now go read it because Bat Boy is a cutie.
