Repetition of the same Formula every Arc
by Jiuyin
September 11th, 2016, 3:29am
Rating: 4.0  / 10.0
I read this over 1000+ chapters in the chinese raws, but I just stopped reading it because the formula is virtually the same every arc. MC goes to a new place, enemy provokes him, he battles to a draw with the enemy, he powers up and then he kills them. It's always the same math: MC is a 4.5 rank enemy is a 5 rank. MC powers up, and becomes a 5 but because he has a stronger power, he becomes a 5.5, stronger than all 5 ranks. Then he provokes/some Rank 6 guy touches him, and he attacks them. Rise and repeat. There is no new development other than the rank increase, every single new enemy always "provokes the main character because he's weak" but gets killed later on because the MC is "heartless" and somehow comes back to fight stronger than before.

His comrades literally do nothing but be there for a fight, gets an artifact, disappears for a dozen chapters to power up to the same level as MC, fights another battle, then disappears to power up again. The comrades/the girl do no serve any function other than be convo partners and just join the battle onces it happens and once again disappears.

Spoilers from chapter 900+:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I have had enough when the MC conquered his small world and made his way to the new upper realms of the world. You would think now that you become from a big fish in a small tank to a big fish in a large ocean, you would remain cautious of your surroundings, gather information on new environment, and learn how to get stronger, and see if there is anything unknown that could kill you. Nope, First thing he does is enters a village, some thugs poke at him, and he kills them and provokes the Boss. Yet somehow MC's rank is 10.5, enemy Boss is only 11. Yet again, MC powers up and kills the Boss.

In the end, there are better options to read that allow more flexible environment, change of pace, new themes/hidden dangers, or even sudden twists that other novels improve and the story matures with the MC. Through-out the whole 1000+ chapters, other than change of environment, and different names of the enemies, all antagonist somehow understimate MC and always arrogant. There is no cunning, no smart complex enemy that you can sympathize with, just the flat "he is a bad guy, therefore, acts arrogant, cruel, strive for power evil". MC is a flat linear character. Provoke me, I merciless, I power up, you die.

Definitely do not read if you are expecting depth and a maturing story, but do read if you just like action, MC kicking ass, and the suspenseful battles. But you will get tired in the end as nothing new happens.

Starts well, and gets better

Started off fairly well, but it is getting better, especially with the introduction of his beast companion. The beast companion is shameless, and hilarious. At the begging I enjoyed SOTR more than DWG, but now the enjoyment of the former has gone downhill, and the latter has gone uphill. I think the comedy separates it from SOTR.

The MC is not a jerk, but he is not nice. There are some clans that have issues with the MC's clans, and want to destroy his clan. Of course, the MC is not going to be nice, and if he is arrogant, so what? They were after his life, and his father's life, who would not be upset. If someone does not like these types of MC's, I suggest sticking to Japanese MC's.

its not your usual novel i mean sure its similar to sovereign of the three realms but the mc of this novel is way more cold blooded, he doesnt give two sh!ts about his enemies and theres nothing like where the mc is like "damn i way too weak" its just him like lol screw you youre dead. awesome.

There is not a lot of originality with this novel like CowTail said, however, the comedy is the one that sticks out for me. I literally lmao at a couple of comedy moments in the novel, and I assure you that I'm one of those people that rarely ever laugh at them.

The novel is enjoyable, and if you like novels where 'the MC is reincarnated, underestimated by his peers, and becomes a legend later on, (which is like btw) then you should read this novel.

The love relantionship are the worst i ever read, he said he cares about his GFs but his action say otherwise

Felt the first few chapters were pretty bad and like a few of the other guys down below said, it felt like a worse copy of SOTR. However it picked up soon after and became a pretty good read.

While there's not a whole lot of originality in the xianxia genre, this one starts off as a near rip off of the Sovereign of the Three Realms novel. SOTR is better, in my opinion, but this one is still enjoyable for when there's nothing else to read.

Same copypaste story with an a**hole of MC

Boring setting, with the same old "super expert reincarnating to a new body" story. I could live with that if it was done intelligently. But all the MC does is acting arrogantly and humiliating his enemies. Not out of revenge but because he can.
Tales of Demons and Gods had an interesting backstory that made me keep up with it's jerk of an MC at least for a while before I couldn't endure it anymore. This novel doesn't even have that so I'm dropping it early on.
If you want a similar story which is written better then read SOTR or ATG.
