Description

For four years, Shougo Natsuka has loved his popular, perfect, and handsome classmate Hiro Hakushima. two characters that deserve each other

I had an interesting time reading this. I didn't really like the characters and didn't really cheer for them getting together, like I should for a typical BL manga.

However, this is meant to be a fucky, unsettling, emotional thriller and in that way, I think it succeeds. I was definitely uncomfortable and confused while reading this. A lot of readers below said they saw the plot twist coming, but I may be just as stupid as the MC for being blindsided LOL. Or rather I, as the reader, wanted to believe the same thing MC wanted to believe, which didn't align with this story's reality. Such is the exact course Tamekou wanted to put me on, I imagine.

This is certainly, to boil it down to trite terms, Toxic Yaoi. I wanted something sweeter going in, so I was certainly taken aback, but I can't say I wasn't entertained. I want to grade this manga on its merit as a form of entertainment rather than as a story I like or dislike -- because honestly, I didn't like the characters or their resolutions very much. They all act extremely hornybrained, illogical, and at times patently insane. But... Tamekou set out to make complex, pointedly unlikable characters, so that's a success, is it not?

Not to mention, the ultimate couple that the love triangle settles with is a pair that are both the same shade of morally grey, so it doesn't feel as nasty as a lot of other unhealthy yaoi relationships. They're equally fucked up and in love... somehow.

Compelling story

This is the best of tamekou's more "serious" works; the two volume serialization shows that she really shines when given more space to work with. True to form, she shies away from some of the darker threads that she teases, but the cop-out is less egregious here then in, say, Deichuu no Hasu, where the "twist" just leaves you with a confusing, bitter aftertaste. Both the main characters have their own hangups, and you can't say either is a particularly good person in the end, but their struggle to find love is painful, tender, and has a real human charm. My sole gripe is what do you have against shading Tamekou!!

i get it, but also i did feel super awkward while reading it.
is a messy melodramatic and the characters seem insane but that's within their characteristics so is not to bad, i just wans't rooting for them.
I didn't hate it but I wouldn't re-read it.

Serious Romance

I didn't realize this would be so serious. For the first half, I thought the story felt a little creepy/off, but I really enjoyed the second half. I really liked how it ended.

Also, the plot twist is kind of obvious, but I don't think the author was trying to make it a huge twist. You can read the story knowing everything and still enjoy it.

Certainly keeps you entertained with all the drama but I didn't really like the premise. There were certain things with the main couple that didn't sit right with me, so I wasn't really rooting for the main couple in the end. You have to suspend your belief quite a bit to accept the twist as well.

I did like the concept of "loving someone for their soul" and how the story actually fulfilled that in a different way than you would expect. That was clever. But I think it could have been done more gracefully.

The characters were acting too illogical

there's just no way, you can't remember your freaking classmate from high school, after just 3-4 years, no way in hell , couldn't really like any of them. The story was messy, and sometimes so melodramatic, which just put me off. The ending was too rushed, no explanation, no discussion, no sorting out emotions, it just ended quite abruptly. The art was nice though.

Hit me hard with the feels

I didnt expect much when I started reading as I am neither a fan of love triangle nor body swap, but I hoped something good would happen after the first few chapters while feeling painful for them (not gonna spoil but still, I cried a lot throughout).
Love is really something - the characters find themselves doing the things knowing they wouldnt get any better, solely because of love. They do deserve to be loved.

Can't say I didn't see it coming but the mangaka did get me good with the few red herrings strategically placed to divert attention and distract the audience from the truth which I had actually suspected but was still fooled. I think there are still one or two small loopholes in the story but I can't be bothered to dig deeper and list them all right now. One strong point I have to point out is the artwork, specifically the smut which is really hot ngl. I wouldn't say I'm very much charmed by the characters, but I guess that wasn't the point of the manga anyway and that's fine.
