Description
From Bliss:
Takashi is haunted at night by visions of a woman begging for her child not to be taken away. He sometimes sees strange shadows outside his window, but tries his best to simply ignore them. As his seventeenth birthday approaches, the shadow becomes more and more clear, and the vision more vivid. Slowly, the once kind and caring Takashi becomes indifferent, and eventually cold and biting towards everyone around him. What does this sudden change in attitude have to do with his seventeenth birthday?

...that the comments are being dominated by Yamamoto Kotetsuko fans who didn't realise the author is Ono Fuyumi, and therefore expected something completely different from what Sugiru Juunana no Haru has to offer. So let me start out by saying this: the author and the artist deal with two completely different styles and genres of story-telling. Ono Fuyumi is an acclaimed writer of supernatural mysteries with horror undertones, while Yamamoto Kotetsuko writes fluffy BL dramedies. If you came here looking for the latter, it'd be best to walk away.
Now, about the story itself: This is not your typical horror manga. Like most of Ono Fuyumi's stories, the focus is heavily on the plot and not on blood and gore or the characters' relationships extraneous to the plot, and centres on an investigation that progresses much the same way a murder mystery might -- only with ghosts as the culprits. There's exploration of pasts, motives, character connections and histories, and the details of the haunting are revealed little by little. It's a quiet, intelligent read as befits its older demographic.
There's no BL or hints to that effect: Ono's not a BL author and Yamamoto's merely adapting the original work (and a lovely adaptation it is, too, so kudos to her for that). This isn't all that shoujo or josei-esque in the sense that there's no romantic drama or sexual tension between the main characters. If you're hoping for any of those things, Sugiru Juunana no Haru will not deliver. Read only if the idea of a supernatural detective story sounds good to you.

The first volume started to become so dragging that I lost interest in the characters that were interesting before. It took the siblings so long to act and think things through that it annoyed me. Esp. the quite indifferent or oblivious behaviour of the brother who brushed everything quickly off as nothing when it obviously was not nothing. Damn brat.
Volume 2 was interesting again, but Im glad it was over after 14 chapters.
I like Yamamotos art, thats why I picked this title. It was a decent read but nothing to remember for me.
Liked Konya mo Nemurenai better.

this horror manga take quite a different turn than other horrors. we dont really feel scared much, and the real action takes after 6 chapter so it can be quite trying if you want a quick horror. it feels more of a mystery than horror manga to me, when they need to piece together what happened. and the ending feels quite anticlimactic. but it is not bad, it just, not what i really want for a horror manga.

It's not bad but it's not very exciting either. I felt nothing for the characters. They were not very developed in the story although it's not unusual for the horror genre, but it would have been nice if the writer tried to. The mystery part was interesting as it had a reasonable basis with nice twists and turns. An entertaining but forgettable read is what I'll call this manga.
I do like Yamamoto Kotetsuko's art though.

But really, this doesn't have any shoujo-ness to it! And I love it like that. The story is absolutely great, there are twists and turns all throughout the story. There are times where I was genuinely too scared to read while being alone. And the artwork! Oh my goodnes, this mangaka is my favorite when it comes to artwork. I can't get enough of her work!
It's definitely one of the best stories I've read this year.

Oh my god, that was one hell of a manga! It was chilling, entertaining, freaking and awesome, mixing Ono Fuyumi's complex story with Yamamoto Kotetsuko's beautiful art. I have to say I'm at loss of words. But it's a must read, that's definite.
It was my first time reading a story from Ono-sensei's pen, but it left me deeply impressed. As for the mangaka, Yamamoto-sensei, I'm a huge fan of her (BL-) works and seeing this story with two guys as main characters even my BL-loving side felt somehow satisfied - though Sugiru Juunana has nothing to do with that genre.
Don't miss this manga. You won't regret reading it, that's for sure.

Okay, this is really chilling. I'm usually not scared by stuff but this is just pit of fear in your stomach, weak in the knees, sweat on the back of your neck scary. I'm glad I read it in daylight! Definitely one of the best dramatic mangas I've read. The characters were wonderfully fleshed out even only over two volumes and there was a great suspense to the story.

Wow--is all I have to say after reading this manga. It's just one suspenseful plot, beautifully written and drawn. I got sucked right in after the events that happen in the first chapter. The mystery and the emotional quality of this story is just perfect in my opinion. I would defintely recommend this to anyone who wants to read a great short story.
