Definitely not just comedy

Having read 2 volumes of Sister Akane, I can only say that this manga is definitely not just comedy. And while it has lots of touching scenes, it wasn't a feel good manga for me.

The story seemed to be built entirely on the protoganists facing never-ending trials and overcoming them. While I'm fine with this sort of story, the tragedy that befalls the siblings were just a little too much for me, especially for a series under the Comedy+Ecchi+Romanace genre.

Not a feel good series. However, while it's not my cuppa tea, the art is quite nice, and there are some really touching, heart-wrenching arcs in there. Will probably pick it up again when I'm in the mood for drama and tragedy.

Yamahana Noriyuki, so I'm pretty excited for this one as well. The first two chapters were dramatic but great. The style reminds me of Kimagure Orange Road, which was awesome.

not tragedy, it's a big harem

All tragic events happen in vol 1. From vol2 onwards it's only about the daily lives of the two blood-unrelated siblings. The art is very nice, but ecchiness is excessive. Anyway, for fans of man-has-all-the-girls manga type, it's a good read.

It gets better

Ok, I admit the first volume of the manga is kinda tragic, but the tragic stuff definitely gets tone down after a while. Replying to Laclongquan, the artwork goes through a change after the first volume or so, so PLEASE don't judge the manga based on the current scanlations.

Dragged

It is really too long. It should have ended sooner as some volumes were really pretty pointless.

It also should be noted that not only the mood changes but also the artwork changes too. In the first few volumes the mangaka really tries hard to draw, in the latter ones - puts much less effort in his drawing and you can clearly see it in the way he draws hair. In the first half hair drawn carefully and much thinner while in the second half they are just chunks of mass with curly edges. It is rare to say but with time this mangaka's artwork not improved but actually degraded compared the way it was in the beginning.

The plot is too long, too much of questionable drama. This manga should have been 7-8 volumes long at max.

Pretty good so far

The heroine really is getting a lot of shit(her life really sucks), but she's a smart girl in a rough situation.

the main male lead is a decent hard working guy that knows what he should do. He's more of the go getter type, and seems pretty strong. This really works in this case. A blue collar worker, mostly due to circumstance. Though his life could have been easier if he had shrugged responsibility.

I don't mind the art at all. Its more modern than I expected but its really cartoony. perhaps its only flaw is that it doesn't quite match the seriousness. But that might be for the better since its taking some of the intensity of these situations.

Horrible

I started reading this story based on the summary and genre (there was tragedy, which is a lie for the most part of the manga). Wish I didn't do it.

As already noted, the story is really dragged, filled with shounen-level ecchi. The main guy, Shinpei, just doesn't make any sense. "Although I know we both love each other and suffering, I won't touch this girl because we had been living together as step-siblings for 5 years." What?!

The story is choppy sometimes. It cuts in unexpected moments, which left me really confused. Speaking on confusion the last volume just doesn't make sense.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Akane says, "Mother, I can't live with you, sorry." Yet, she leaves for Milan. WHAT?! WHY?! Also, the ending wasn't rushed for the most part, but mere five pages to show them in three years are clearly not enough.

All in all, it's a run-of-the-mill romcom manga. I wouldn't say it's a harem, because there's no more than two girls in one moment who fall for Shinpei. Anyway, don't waste your time.

FOURTEEN VOLUMES.

Fourteen volumes of this. How does that I don't even. No, seriously. There's only 3 chapters translated at the time of this writing, so I don't have a lot to go on, and I don't like to judge a title so quickly, but...

Terrible artwork, cliche'd characters and story, somewhat shallow... I don't really understand what motivated the publisher to stick with this for 14 volumes. I'll be weathering it as long as I can stand to, but for the time being, I just don't understand at all.

Just look at the cover! Look at it!

"hey horny boys, please dont notice at all the bad art and the corny service trap. As long as there's honey inside you shouldnt pay attention to anything else!" It said quite clearly.

Sheeesh!

Anyone care to contradict me?
