Lovely insight into Ryukyuan culture

I purchased this manga because I'd developed an interest in the Okinawa before it was Okinawa - when it was an independent kingdom called 'Ryuukyuu'. This manga is really fascinating because you can see Ryuukyuu come to life on every page - the manga artist clearly did a lot of research, it's actually educational.

I thought the pacing of the first chapter was way too fast. It was so fast in fact it almost put me off reading the rest. Everything is thrown at you in the first two pages - the MC even meets the male love interest on page two, before we've even got to know her properly or got a sense for where - and when - we are.

The pacing improves, however, and it's actually a sweet story, if not a little too sweet. Cliches abound, but the insight you get into ancient Ryuukyuu makes up for that. Unless you're not interested in Ryuukyuu, in which case this manga doesn't exactly wow story wise so it's probably not for you.
