I should’ve known better

It’s alright, if you can ignore the usual - the underage heroine, the misogynistic gender dynamics, and the questionable violence in the name of love.

The fluff is very, very cute, though.

One of the parts aside from (or in addition to) the usual objectionable manga/manhua content was the disappointment of having been duped into believing the gender dynamics were not quite as terrible as the norm.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Despite the male lead’s considerable status, wealth, and power, he’s first introduced right after being stripped of these privileges. His social status, physical prowess, and riches meant nothing right after he lands in another time.

Even when they’re both in his time, we’re under the impression that at least in their past life, they were of relatively equal status. She was a spirit of some sort, and he was more specifically a fox spirit.

The point is, for once, I thought I’d finally, finally found a story where the male was not significantly stronger/smarter/richer/wealthier/more attractive/more powerful than the female lead.

Hurrah, I thought. Finally a Chinese manhua where the strong female lead isn’t eclipsed and reduced into a lucky Damsel by the male lead’s brilliance.

But then it turns out the fox spirit was the flipping King of Hell before he was a fox spirit. Surprise, surprise.

More the fool I for ever thinking a manhua would not tip the gender power dynamic in favor of the male.

The art is pretty and clean, though, the coloring is nice, and the characters are relatively likable. And, again, the fluff is tooth achingly sweet.

Would recommend to friends who don’t mind the hackneyed shoujo sexism and gender roles.

I like all the characters to the fullest, and don't worry, there is nothing of phedofilia (a concern that I had when I begun to read). Everybody is so smart and assertive. You can see that there is a well constructed plot. Ilike the two leads, something reaaaally rare. They're both smart, and SO CUTEEE. Ah, and there is a yandere guy, to the interesteds ;D.
