A battle manga masquerading as something else

At it's core, Dead Mount Death Play is a battle manga. New organizations and powerful players are constantly introduced to ramp up power levels and severity of conflicts. It will pretend it is a mystery series and wallow in melodrama, but it always finds its way back to fights.

That is not to say it's bad per se, just temper your expectations such that you know what you're in for. The battles are still beautiful and there is thought put into how they play out (usually) so it isn't purely a fight of strength. The character interactions are also generally enjoyable and most of the regular cast has something interesting about them, I can only think of two real exceptions.

I would especially like to applaud the character of Phantom Solitaire. He is skilled at what he does but is nowhere near the power levels of the higher tier characters. That being said, he is a constant player in high level events purely for the fact he is erratic and can bullshit better than anyone else. He makes moves out of curiosity or even random chance rather than having any firm strategy. This frequently finds him in deep shit but he's so good at bullshitting he either convinces people he has some greater plan at work or that he's not worth dealing with at the time. He feels like Team Rocket if they were a bit more skilled and involved with major plot points. Honestly, even if the core of the manga were worse, I might just read for him.

The premise is quite interesting but way too many things don't make sense .Just a s PZcolo said "I want peace and quiet so let's join this organisation that kills people and killed my body's former owner" whilst helping the dead only when it's plot convenient just to randomly ignore others after...

He is making the same mistakes as in his past life ( everyone is aware of him from ch1...and almost all his interventions are noted by the whole city ) .After setting the scene the story goes round and round with him doing obvious mistakes and the author randomly introducing cliche elements to pull in more readers at the end of each chapter and as an excuse for the plot not to advance (typical thief/illusionist , random naked girls ,a weird guy that looks like robo-cop ,showing other world for no good reason ...)

Typical Narita

If you know Ryohgo Narita, you'll know what to expect.

The story is pretty entertaining and it reads like a combination of all of Narita's original works - Baccano, Durarara, Vamp!, and Etsusa Bridge. As always, Narita shines when it comes to characters - you have an isekai'd necromancer, a crazy assassin girl turned zombie, badass cops, crazy assassins, and generally weird people everywhere. It's great. Very entertaining, too. You won't get any philosophical waxing on life and death or any other deeper meaning, but you'll get the manga equivalent of a popcorn action flick. I recommend it.
It's also much better than Stealth Symphony, Narita's last foray into manga.

Fairly interesting

I's a bit of a departure seeing an Isekai go "the other way" and have it set in the modern world. The characters are interesting as is the setup. I'd say give it a chapter or two, or alternately skim it and make a snap judgement like the previous reviewer. The main character (this is explained explicitly at the beginning of chapter two so no major spoilers) wanted to commit suicide and re-incarnate but wasnt able to. Now that he's alive again he wants to take control of his own fate and find out whats going on, again all of this is literally and explicitly stated.

That's not even getting into the fact that the character clearly doesn't want what he says he does as his actions clearly show. Or that "Oh someone was paid to kill this body but now its alive again...welp guess I'll just ignore it!" would be, to quote a certain luminary reviewer, "crap".

I dont think this is going to revolutionise the industry but its a step above standard isekai stuff based on the setup alone.

"I want peace and quiet so let's join this organization that kills people and killed my body's former owner" Nop, not happening, and that's enough to know this manga is crap, won't be wasting my time with crap.
