This is a mysterious romance webtoon and in many moments it gives me the creeeps! I wanna know what’s going on but I hope it doesn’t turn into a Days Of Hana type of tragedy. I really like the leads though!

You can't give your manhwa the title 'Detective' and hopes that romance is what makes it float

The romance, albeit being a slow burn one, is one of the few good points of the story. But while I love the FL, I don't really like the ML and I don't know why he has such a low EQ. Is he a psychopath? Or is he supposed to be a reenactment of Sherlock, if Sherlock is bland, passive, and uninspiring?

The biggest problem with this manhwa however, is it's supposed to be a mystery/detective story. But the mysteries are boring, they don't leave you with the sense of suspense and because of the slow pace they also give you no thrill. The inclusion of supernatural elements and/or magic in the mysteries doesn't add to making them interesting - if anything it's poorly done, a bad mix like water and oil. And the ML is supposed to be this exceptional detective who notices things others don't, but he is exceptional only because the rest of the police force is stupid and can't see a clue even if it smacks them across their faces.

Mysteries aren't really solved

For being titled "Detective", not much actual detective work is shown. Things happen in such a way that they'll have a conclusion to their mystery, but no actual clue-searching seems to happen. Or they happen off-screen.

It's two completely different stories being told at once. FL's maid story and ML's detective story. But since we're going from the FL biased POV and ML is so stoic...ML's detective story is pretty unnecessary.

At ch60, the story might gain some more coherency because ML and FL are now inhabiting the same space.

Characters = 4/10
Plot = 3/10
Art = 10/10

Firstly the ML is a psychopath; that’s true. He mellows out a bit later on, but mostly he’s kind of like a pet dog? But like the kind that pretty much ignores his surroundings and could care less about his cases unless it means pleasing the FL (aka his owner).

Like seriousllllyyyyy how can you call yourselves detectives when pretty much MORE people die when you’re ~detecting~? The FL becomes dumber than bricks when it’s convenient to the plot. The ML only does his job when he wants to, and then the evil people reveal themselves when they inevitably threaten the FL.

This story is just... so chaotic. I like the servant arc because at least the plot was coherent. Then suddenly it became about highschool drama, elves, witches, vampires, magic, child slavery, business, and like whaaatttt is even happening.

I will say this, the ML and FL make a great couple. They are so sweet together. The side characters also have a slightly sweet relationship, but the star is honestly just our ML & FL. There is no detective-ing because everything that happens is so straightforward. Straightforwardly chaotic. It’s not boring at least? I’m really confused by the story but still entertained. The ending is terribly rushed too. I don’t understand who’s a Hogan and who’s nobility. Like why was that even an issue? And
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
the witch needs to stay dead, period. Dying and coming back 3 times is not cute

Go into this without expecting much and just go with it. Don’t think too hard. I think it is much more enjoyable that way.

Problems with ML

I was enjoying this at first, but then when you get a look inside the ML's head I kinda stopped enjoying it.

He seems like a total sociopath, at one point he doesn't understand why the FL is upset at the prospect of seeing a child brutally murdered in front of her, he thinks it shouldn't bother her because she she doesn't know the child!

I just can't bring myself to read a series when I just want the FL to get as far away as possible from the ML and it's obviously not going to happen.

Too long, very uneven, with some potential but overall meh

I have been struggling with this manhwa for almost five months. And while it is a long one, with over 160 chapters, it was a chore to actually go troughs it. Of course, other things tickled my fancy so it's not only the quality of the manhwa that propelled me to read it for such a long time.. but overall, this was meh.
Where to start. I don't feel like wasting too much time on this one, so I'll try to be brief. This isn't a detective novel in the slightest. There is a central mystery and some detective elements, but so little and inconsequential. This is a shojo cleverly masked in a semi-mystery-fantasy surroundings. As I noted, there are some good elements here. The whole background of the story, with the witches, mana drainers, the secret magical items, is actually pretty solid and could have been made into an okay soft fantasy. But sadly, things shift uncontrollably from a boring murder mystery, to a slice of life, to a romance novel, to a female empowerment, to some totally random supporting characters that just appear and dissapear... Yep, I found this story flow pretty much terrible and the number of characters to inflated for no reason. We even have a few promising chars that just dissapear for no reason (looking at you, Rosemary).

But the ML and FL are... Hard to really gauge. Kate had some major awesome moments in the beginning, when she was just an inquisitive maid that looked after herself very well. IMHO, the story actually ruins her character by making her a secret heiress and whatnot. She becomes the typical boring shojo heroine, pure as snow and almost without a bad toughts in herself (Jeffery Hogan gets her on the edge of her seat, but otherwise she's perfect). The ML is sooooo boring. I understand that he's a type of a tsundere, but he's neither sexy, smoldering, likable or anything. He just looks good, and acts like a total psychopath, with no human emotions whatever. While having such a character may not be necessarily bad, having him for a ML in what is basically a shojo manhwa ia MAJOS misstep.

And other things that irked me... Enoch Rainforrest suddenly appears and starts acting like a jerk right of the bat. The bad guys are such laughable caricatures it's almost sad. Duke Evans is underused, but he's actually a morally ambiguous man and a fabulous character but it's never shown properly. Josephine Court's character was ruined as you see she was written to fall under the wrong influence (trust me, it wasn't subtle at all). So many story threads simply go nowhere. Jade was cute and the other detectives were at least nice. The lore needed more work on, but is not features heavily enough as it is. The world-building feels too thin mostly because of that.

Overall, this was a miss IMHO. It's not terrible, and the art is well made, but all the things of substance were lacking. Skip unless you are a completist.

Never had her overthinking worked in this story.
FL was always the damsel in distress saved by ML.
I also don't like the thought of ML giving his everything to FL like dude have some dignity.

Pathetic writing.

Didn't read very far in at all, only up to chapter 8. Just not into the ML, as others have said - he's just kinda boring. Seems really flat and he does nothing to interact with the FL. It's very slow to start, so I'll be dropping it for now.
