Entertaining but...

At first I was a bit skeptical about the manga with that whole religion theme going on but in the end I still gave it a shot. The story wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. It seemed to me that it would've been better had it gone more in depth and elaborate.

The art was between so-so and good, there's too many people and too much going on sometimes that it looked a little too messy. The faces of the characters had either very little or too much distinction (with the face masks). It seemed like the mangaka was trying to create individuality but failed in the process and went YOLO.

The characters of Izaya and Kyo, along with Oboro and Miyabi were ok, not very memorable. It bothered me that they have connections to other characters that weren't explained at all.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Especially with that Mr. Fake near the end of the series. And also that Sakura person who seems so obsessed.

I just didn't get how they were related to Miyabi, or why they did what they did. They just appeared and then that was that. No back-story, no nothing. I'm actually wondering now if I missed a long prologue or something.

All in all, it was entertaining but I can't honestly say that it's among the best I've read.

Yeah definitely its a fav <3
Not one part of this manga i dont like...art is awesome, characters also, story is different than in most bl today.Seme is simply awesome in my opinion while uke...well i have to admit that he is just too naive but he wasnt annoying for me.Probably because i was focused on seme too much XD
One thing i absolutely was fascinated with is the female Miyabi that wasnt at all like the rest females in yaoi mangas, she is one strong woman.

Everyone who likes their semes strong and cool should read this smile

To be honest, the plot of this manga seems to be more shounen than yaoi. I think that's part of the reason why it seems so confusing. Trying to cram so much information and plot twists into 12 chapters isn't easy.

It was pretty enjoyable, as I don't mind action, but it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. If it's your cup of tea, though, by all means, go ahead ^^

The thing is, you either like this manga or you don´t. Me.....well I found it kinda boring. Shimotsuki has this amazing talent to always get me confused, and this time...she got me even more confused. Drawing action-based manga is definitly not her thing, sometimes beautiful art can cover up these kinda things, unfortunatly it didn´t work out for her. I mean....really, most of the time I didn´t get what the heck was going on.

Most of the story was blaaah, it becaome boring and repetitive after 5 chapters or so. I think it would be better if she stopped it at one volume only, because 2 volumes was a bit too much to handle. One thing I found irritating was that the uke was TOO girly, and here I don´t mean a girly-but-tries-to-act-manly uke, he was girly to the core. It almost felt like I was reading a shoujo manga, not kidding.

Sorry to say, this manga just didn´t cut it out for me. Not my cup of tea.

Okay, I adore the art (Shimotsuki Kairi is a genius in that department), and I love the characters (especially the crazy main guy), but the plot was... well, it was action, I guess, but it was like FLUFFY action. By which I mean it didn't have much purpose at all. It was just kind of there. Which is fine, but it got in the way of me enjoying the characters, which wasn't so okay.

Average Yaoi with stylish art

Action-packed manga with light Yaoi throughout the story.
Except for the extra chapter at the end of vol. 2, that has explicit art.

The story is not your standard story but won't knock your socks off. It's a good base for action though and has, in itself, logical reasoning. It was fun to read until it developed to a more religious and anti-religious theme (*yawn*). Even when they were fanatics it started to bore me.

The characters however are not very original and not fleshed out much but ah well it's just 2 volumes and at the end it turns out as everyone expects it from the start anyway. Many of the villains were just of the clichéd annoying and stupid kind. Boring. Well the protagonists were stereotypes too but they were at least cool. Except for father Iza-something, he was a wimp, a brat, felt more like the annoying tag-a-long than a main char.

The art is very nice, not always perfect but stylish and pretty cool.

Not your stuff when you're looking for quick Yaoi action but worth a read if you like cool chars fight with style and slaughter and don't mind the cheesy end.

edit: If you like such art then check out Crimson Spell. It has Yaoi action quite early, nice art and also some action.

I have never read this authors works b4 (i think), but she is now one of my favorite. The art is awesome, the story is awesome, the action is very good and it has just the right amount of comedy. Kyou is my ideal seme and Izaya is a great uke. Izaya is very effeminate but some ppl like that, and he plays the part very well. If you aren't into that, read it anyway if you like action, blood and gore, its worth it. If you have a weak heart for senceless killing and psychos with ugly habbits then u shouldent read this. Kyou has a perfect blend of dark, cool, scary, dark past and short tempered personality. I love how the female character "Miyabi", was not played as an annoying b***h like is often in yaoi mangas. She is actually a favorite character of mine, even if she is a s**t, hehe I give this a solid 10

If you are interested in action & adventure, more masculane ukes, and less gore then I suggest reading Crimson Spell. Also one of my favorite <<

Izaya

I think people are missing the point when they complain about Izaya looking too feminine. He get mistaken for being a woman at least once in the manga, so it's not just us the reader who sees him that way.

Oh and a comment on the scanlation status. Madness actually has a total of twelve chapters plus two extra chapters, one at the end of each volume. Chapters 11, 12 and the final extra did get done but the releases here only go up to 10 most likely due to no group taking credit for it [as the file archives I found didn't contain any info.] I'm mentioning this only so that hopefully looks at the completed status and gets the wrong impression that it just ends abruptly after only 10 chapters.
