The premise was frustratingly weak — I’ll go to extreme lengths to hide the fact that I’m going out with my bf because he’s handsome, and I’m generically pretty. I feel like a lie because I’m living a lie for no good reason that I could just come out with (eventually she reveals that she felt like a lie before this nonsense because she tends to be a people pleaser, but it was very hard to empathize with her before she mentioned that part). I only kept reading it because the relationship the two have is incredibly healthy and well-written (which is why I wasn’t too surprised she wrote for Galette too). But I also feel the author messed up when she had a high-schooler be her soapbox about how screwing up in high school is ok — it sounds very much like an parent's words in a 10th grader's mouth.
