It encourages personal agency and freedom even to the point of stupidity at the detriment of others

The whole story is framed around giving value to personal choice and freedoms regardless of potential cost to society. This might be fine on a lesser scale -- there's nothing wrong with wanting your own life and your own actions -- but the story plays it to absolute extremes to the point of stupidity and blind selfishness. One character in particular is condemning thousands to death so she can hang out and have fun with her brother when she is explicitly the strongest being in the setting other than God and could just hang out with her brother after they kill the demon king. (A point they were very near before she just decided to fuck off!) The story frames her as being in the right for doing this, too! Everyone who opposes the idea is painted as either stupid or pure evil like there is no point to the argument of having a responsibility to others. There's no sign in-story that anyone else can take on the demon king, so by electing not to act, she signs a death warrant for all who the demon king attacks. There's no sign the shitty system can be changed, either. The story just goes, "Welp, sure most of humanity will die, but hey, this teenage girl got to do what she wanted so it's worth it right?"

I'm sure eventually the story will culminate in a big moment where the god is the real antagonist and is puppeting everyone to make this shit happen, but that doesn't excuse the stupidity of the story in getting there. Even if this is the case there is no evidence in the text that is apparent to our characters of it, yet they still act like they are in the right and the narrative affirms them for it. It's incredibly frustrating, this story could have actually grappled with personal responsibilities and when it's okay to quit but instead just lumps it all into "it's always your choice, do whatever you want, more power to you!"

Genre Confusion
by LazyReviewer

Rating: 7.5  / 10.0
It's honestly a great story for what it is, but it feels like it doesn't understand its own genre. That's not necessarily the worst thing, but the story does seem to suffer a bit because of that.

For example, the hero party goes everywhere looking for artifacts and trying to level up to face the current demon king. But in an attempt to keep the story in the location the main character (MC) settled down in, everything important seems to be set within a day's walking distance from one location.

There's this huge world and impressive ruins and history and yet it all comes back to this frontier town (a frontier to the edge of known civilization, not the actual demon threat).

The characters are interesting, and the art is appealing (if a little rough at times). The plot is nice, and I love some of the concepts its attempting to deal with.

And everything, despite its shrinking scope, is handled well for the most part. Even the genre shifts are handled as well as they could be despite holding the story back overall.

I would warn there's (so far) one panel of detailed nudity and a handful that come close, and there's definitely things kids shouldn't read besides that.

Overall, it feels like it could be so much better, but is still well above average.

Edit:
The review above me, while I don't completely agree with everything that was pointed out, does tell a lot of truth. This story's greatest weakness is it's lack of a solid identity (genre confusion), which results in the main characters ignoring the needs of the rest of the world. It really does make them look selfish in a way it wouldn't if this story had a solid identity.

But, where I do push back is on the little sister's decision. Yes, the MC and the FMC are absurdly unconcerned for the rest of the world. But it does make sense for the little sister to make that decision:

The little sister is forced, against her will, to endure
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
a companion so terrible he ends up destroying the hero's party. She hates him with all of her being, and he's trying to manipulate her into being his wife. And she isn't allowed to kill him the way she can most of her other problems.

In fact, she splatters him on the wall of her room before being forced to heal him against her will.

She's given up because that one despicable companion has demoralized her to the point of giving up. Imagine, a teenage girl surrounded by people she can't connect with and forced to be with someone she hates, giving up on the thing that makes her so miserable because maybe she does want to see the world burn a little at that low point in her life.

What should happen is the MC and FMC start helping her form a new party, and the fact they don't is why I do agree with a lot of what the review above says.

The MC and FMC are absolutely illogical or selfish when it comes to the fate of the world.

I just don't feel this particular story suffers that much from this one illogical point to say it's bad overall, because the story isn't about saving the world.

There are too many things left out of the original novel.

Even between chapters, you feel that you're missing informations.
Like the flashback in chapter 16, either it happened out of the manga, or they didn't even reread before making it.

It really feels like they didn't do it seriously.

Average romance, crappy plot.

Yet another beta MC who has such low self esteem he won't even stand up to his douchebag party member who kicks him out because said douche wants to marry the MC's SISTER. Like seriously wtf dude?! Then the author makes some bullshit rules for the sake of cheap drama that makes the sister and her other party members unable to punish said douche because they inherently cannot harm fellow party member unless they are physically harmed first. So here they are stuck with a verbally and mentally abusive shit-stain of a "sage" who thinks he's hot stuff meanwhile our MC and his "main story" is this convoluted tangle of cutesy romance moments with his LI interspersed with dealing with the asshole villains of the week that never ends in a satisfying manner. Then we also have these sudden flashback scenes of the MC's party back before he left them so we readers are basically keeping track of at least three separate plotlines and timelines while dealing with an uneven ratio of unlikeable to likeable characters.

Hard to judge

This is a pure fantasy story, there is no isekai, no time loops, reincarnation or anything of the sort. The author shows bits of the world at a time which can make it feel lacking in the world-building department, a map would have gone long ways here. The story is instead told from the characters and their lives and adventures and thus building the world around them little by little.

It's the classic fight against the demon army kind of plot, the MC was part of the Hero party but he ran away abandoning his little sis (in a sense), because of some manipulation of an antagonist and his inferiority complex. There are bits of the story told from the Hero's point of view (his sister) but it's mostly slice of life and flashbacks of the MC's life (this fillerish parts and the time jumps can be quite annoying), a guy which purpose (so he believes at least) was to care for the Hero (sis) till she was strong enough to do without him, when she gets stronger than him his complex kicks in.
The author goes slowly, at a snails pace, introducing concepts and expanding the world view. The world seemed bland and shallow at first but it's quite interesting and deep. The way the protections function for example seem simple at first but it ain't as they affect personality, interests, affections and specially since there might also be constraints embedded in them. You'll see the Hero in a new light as the story progresses, she's a pitiful girl.
The author is also quite consistent and consequent and (adding to the slow pace) goes to long lengths to explain many details extensively (like economic, political or tactical). That added to the slice of life nature and the slow pace makes it a bit boring at times, thou I prefer it to a rushed nonsense at least.

Last, the art and drawing, I'm pleased to say that there isn't harem (so far), and the fanservice is kept in check (yeah, incredible, I know), also the art style and design is for the most part good but as it often happens, artists exaggerate things to make them more appealing or mobilizing to the reader and I think he messed up here, the guy who manipulates the MC has written "I'm a piece of sh*t" all over him as some other antagonists, as perceptive and smart as the MC is he should realize that. I'm guessing this inner self exposition is an artistic liberty taken and that the novel they disguise their base nature better.

So... has many components to make it interesting (world, characters, skill system) but the slice of life nature of it, the time jumps and the pace in general detracts from from the experience. This one is hard to judge and can go anywhere.

Warm and Fuzzy Fantasy Slice of Life

Refreshing slice of life fantasy with your typical demon lord quest in the background. The main focus is the relationship between the MC and his love interest. Warm and fuzzy moments is the main draw, so if that's not what you're looking for, then this isn't for you.
