I have a really hard time with potentially great mangas that suffer from major underdevelopment. I'd prefer them to be just bad right from the start (meaning: average to terrible plot, mediocre art and tasteless characters). So here's the thing with Kyrie. I loved the idea, the concept, and I felt like both main characters had a lot to offer. Their intention however sounded too far-fetched, possibly (most certainly) given the lack of development given to the whole. For that reason I couldn't possibly feel satisfied with it. Rather, it annoyed me to no end and I'm not even sure if I should like the thing enough to rate it. It a bittersweet feeling. Beautiful art, interesting start-up, even with the:

if a little cliché, with the abusive mother

good characters too.... bad execution overall. Argh!

Sorry, incomplete endings aren't my thing. It wasn't a cliffhanger since we know what happened to them afterwards but how about Mattias' wish?

did it happen or not? We'll forever be wondering cause I dont think there's a sequel either. And I couldn't help but think that

they wanted the priest to see them having sex. Cause well, you could've locked the door and been abit more cautious, right? So they were asking for it. Plus, I think they're both masochist and M&M don't go together.
Not the happiest couple I've read, obviously. It's a typical angsty one-shot. Not that tragic though..just 'sad'. Try if you're bored. Plus, the art's pretty! Who wouldn't want to read a story where the art pulls you in.

I found this definition:

"Kyrie" is one half of the phrase "Kyrie eleison" and is the vocative (meaning calling out to someone) form of kūrios, lord. In short, it means "Lord" or "O Lord". Eleison means "have mercy".

This definition sums up the thrust of this story. It is a very tragic story told with a deft hand of illustrations and powerful chosen words. In one page, this mangaka can create a scene that speaks volumes.

I only wish the artist continued to tell the reader more. There was hope at the end, but it seemed like a basket was put over top of the light, to loosely reference a Bible verse. (Matthew 5:15)
