I actually liked Citrus because it was the yuri manga that got me into reading the yuri genre. But in this sequel, I'm quite disappointed with the story's progression. The longer it goes, the less I know where the story is heading. The author is dragging the story for too long, introducing new characters that I don't think are very useful for the story's development. I believe this manga should focus more on Yuzu and Mei's relationship development, but it feels kinda lacking. In the end, I decided to drop this manga.

Note: The series takes place before the epilogue chapter of the previous series. It picks up two weeks after the marriage meeting in the prequel and every chapter VERY conveniently is titled after the dates the chapter takes place one (e.g. April 20th, April 21-24) (and I really like that naming scheme. One issue in the prequel was it was hard to keep track of how much time had passed.) There's even a panel or two of the epilogue that's repeated at different angles as we see what happened before and after those events (and one time a couple panels are skipped as assumed knowledge)

Ok so the last series was half-angsty cos duh, it was about step-siblings flirting and falling for each other with one of them being seriously messed in the head and the other being incredibly confused by everything as a result.

THIS series is mostly just cuteness again and again and so wholesome. They're past the stage of having any reservations with each other, though they continue to grow as partners, and it's just about their daily lives being incredibly happy with each other. (even though they struggle to find time for one another with their college exams coming up and Mei's admin work)

One thing that irks me, though, is Mei's characterisation has changed, feels less consistent, as she was so sexually confident in the early parts of the prequel but (And we see this somewhat in the later parts of the prequel) seems lacking in knowledge of how an engaged couple behaves in this one. Although, that said, it would make sense in a way as her behaviour in the early parts of the original Citrus was likely a product of her being practically sexually abused by her teacher/fiancé and such behaviour is normal in survivors of child sexual abuse...hmn

Anyway, I love it. I'm tempted to give it a 10, simply because of how enjoyable it is and how light. Which is very interesting as the reason I started reading shoujo-ai/yuri over ten years ago was for the angst and romantic struggles but this is in the other direction. Oh and btw! And there's a lot less sexiness/sexual tension in this one

Highly Recommended if you read Citrus.

Beautiful repeats

New characters, the art is always breathtakingly beautiful, I love the shoujo-ai aspects. Yet it feels a little stale? The drama feels recycled. Mei still has her guard up 100%. It was cute... for the first few volumes. Now, I’m like do you love Yuzu or not? The blushing shyness and being entirely unable to express her emotions is getting old fast.

They’re engaged and Yuzu has to beg for affection STILL? Mei is being selfish.

Also, this series is labeled yuri and josei, yet the girls are getting shyer and shyer with each other? When are they going to be intimate? They had hotter sexual tension in the first chapter than they have in the spin-off series, unfortunately.
I have high hopes. I love the series and I’m going to continue reading. But I’m not enjoying the decline in content. This series really is one of a kind, I hope the rest of Citrus+ is as endearing and fresh and fun as the first series.
