Without a doubt, this is the best shounen action I’ve ever read. Super unique and adorable at the same time, it’s just great! Every element of the story was perfect and everything was really well balanced.
1. Characters and their relationships– Just wonderful. Best thing about this manga, actually. All the characters are amazing, especially the protagonists! I really adore Ban and Ginji and their super endearing bromance. Definitely the bestest friends I’ve ever seen!
It’s not just that, all the other relationships are great as well. This manga focuses on any type of relationship between anybody. It can be friends, partners, family, allies, lovers…even between rivals and enemies! You name it, it’s there. I know some shounen series out there are similar, but Getbackers takes this a step further, and I just love it ^^
Also, unlike your typical shounen, this manga has a lot of character development, and the characters have a lot of depth.
2. Plot - Witty for a shounen action. Not the usual plot-line. And the whole concept behind the story and the world is cool and smart. Really unique too!
3. Art – Slowly improves throughout the volumes and by the second half of the series, it’s very intricate and fancy.
All in all, this is 100% recommended and I promise you won’t regret reading it. The only down point is the Ecchi…but that won’t stop me from giving this a 10 😉

If it's stolen, the invincible duo can retrieve it. Get Backers starts off as a shounen pooled with middling comedy and ecchi. Our main duo, Ginji Amano and Mido Ban are a down-and-out hobos. It is unlike any other shounen out there. It doesn't subscribe to shounen tropes and cliches, and the lack of romance, which ruins other works makes GB captivating. The plot and setting are rather elaborate, that you'll have to pay attention reading if you are to properly understand what's going on.
Most of the time, the combatants are transported into some kind of reality, which I took as the author's way for our protagonists to not concern themselves about civilians getting hurt or dying (which is annoyingly common in other shounen) as they enter a brawl. One thing I love about GB is how the plot allows for our protagonists to be teamed up with their foregone enemies, and be enemies again whereby making you want to see who'll be there in the penultimate arc. As the story advances, our main duo and supporting characters' background and circumstances are fleshed out.
The historical and biblical allusions here and there doesn't undermine and spoil the experience like in other shounen; they were perfectly cogent and justifiable. GB introduced me to the rare and enigmatic Motion Blindness and to one of the most interesting theological puzzle concerning the bibles' two eminent plotholes: Predetermination and Free Will, as Makubex asserts that without Judas' betrayal, there can be no ressurection of Jesus and humanity's redemption. I also had a whale of a time for its comical aspect. GB got me thinking and laughing at Ginji and Mido so it gets my props for that.
Aesthetic-wise, Rando Ayamine and his assistants surely put a lot of effort into GB. The art was consistent and kept improving in the long run despite the pressure of having to finish a tankoubon every two months. It is no exaggeration to say that the art is one of the best among other action manga. The background and action scenes were intensively drawn insofar as there's never a dull moment . If anything, I wish they had pour on a little more work to the character designs. There is regular emergence of an antagonist who either looked like Kazuki or Hevn. Nonetheless, I really enjoy seeing those spiky, long, shounen hair style.
I have only read 23 volumes so far, but I may input more once I finish it. At any rate, I believe that Get Backers is one of the most substantial action manga ever made, and that everyone owe it to themselves to give GB a read

GetBackers gives us a great story of two best friends who have a modern day Robin Hood approach to their business. The art is some of the best in the action genre, the characters are all very fleshed out and lovable, and the adventures they go on are diverse and interesting, but never lose their original focus. The dynamic between Ban and Ginji is hilarious at times, heartwarming at others, and always a blast to see. Anyone who loves battle manga should give this one a shot, it's one of the most unique takes on the style I have encountered.

I hate/love this manga. The art is good, characters are interesting even though they lack depth (this is a shounen after all) .They keep building it bigger and bigger and yet why do I want the damn thing to just end
?? Its too damn long- cut out half the side characters, cut down the useless enemy becomes friend crap and get onto the finale. I am tempted to not read to the end because I have become bored with the all the useless repetition.

Awesome manga with fighting and comedy. Ginji is one of my favorite character and I just don't like Ban even though he may be funny sometimes. Got my reason but lazy to type it down. I'm done reading the latest translation on mangafox.com. I Hope the translations scanlate release soon so i can continue reading. What i afraid the most is that it will take long for it and when it out i might forgot going on which always happen to me.

Enjoyable

As mentioned in previous comments, this series is in a different league compared to all the other action + comedy + ecchi manga out there. There's an intricate plot behind the entire story, and while there're plenty of brainless fights, some of the battles actually do rely more on strategy than on brawn.
Some of the issues they discuss (politics, morality and the environment, to name but a few) are surprisingly deep and intellectual -- it's obvious that the author gave quite a bit of thought to the construction of the dialogues. Even a slightly experienced manga reader should know that this is not a strong point of most shounen.
Another plus is that amidst all the shouts of "I'll kill you!" and "I will become the strongest!!!" there's plenty of character development, and the relationships between the protagonists and their supporting characters are very sincere and endearing.
The character art is so-so, but the background art is amazingly detailed, and it's obvious that Rando Ayamine put a lot of effort into his work. His technique evolves continuously, showing noticeable improvement towards the latter half of the series.
