So what I catch about the main premise of this story is: The cute girl is actually cooler than her boyfriend.
The problem is, the boyfriend is nowhere near cool. Another thing is that the portrayal of the main heroine being cool is heavily rely on her 'mean eye sight' which getting old after 2-3 chapters.

It's more interesting to follow secondary characters like Nekozaki, Hachimitsu or Kamiya and Isana. Also MC's parents are made into quite a colourful bunch, with interesting interaction.

And yes, it's really wholesome. Handholding is intense here.

MC is a weak cuck that can't stand up for himself. This shit is so fucking cringe. If you're a beta bitch and dream about having a girlfriend who does everything for you, including wipe your ass, you'll probably like this one; this MC can't even walk down a street without fucking up in some way.

The romance is cute, and it's undeniably deserving of its high ratings.

...but, you know, you have to be ABLE to appreciate that gender-roles aren't the norm, if not reversed. In this case we have a truly awesome FMC, willing and able to go out and protect her man, be proactive, but still super cute and feminine. And no, that's not at all an insult. She can be proactive and feminine, but the MC can't do the same thing? He can't be caring and kind and still be masculine? Nope, apparently not. He's a total and complete wimp. Admittedly, it's part of his character setting that he's 'unlucky', but unlike, say something from a standard battle type shounen, he doesn't toughen up at all. He's downright pathetic. He's a herbivore, and is constantly being protected, and never seems to grow.

I'll be honest and say I dropped at like 20 chapters, so I can't say beyond that, but that's still a couple of volumes in, and enough to get a grasp on the series. I dropped it when he got jealous of his GF for being popular. He's a stereotypical beta protag that I personally despise. Maybe he does grow, but to be frank I'll doubt it ever happens because while cute, the entire premise of this manga seems to be 'herbivore MC is protected by his awesome GF, who then shows unbearably cute sides'. So frankly if he ever grew to be more of a character the manga would stop from being a one-trick-pony, and turn into a gimmick less story.

So yeah, I can see why people like this, and I wouldn't call it overhyped, just that... it's not my cup of tea.

One of the most wholesome manga's I've ever read, definitely try
