One of the best in its genre

As mentioned before me, both web novels and manhua are open-minded. Whether it's about economy or religion, I believe that among Chinese web novels, it is one of the most open-minded in terms of social, political, and religious issues. However, what I have to mention is that the characters are well-developed, with almost every one of them having some kind of background. The backgrounds of the main characters are more thoroughly developed, but even those who only appear for a chapter or two receive some glimpses into their past through flashbacks. Among the kingdom-building and territory-management web novels, it stands out by providing explanations for many technological advancements, detailing how they were developed and how they differ from their modern-world counterparts. This is a particular positive aspect. The entire civilization's progress unfolds before our eyes. We don't miss out on anything, and each development is not simply brushed off as a result of mystical magic. While magic plays a significant role in production, they also work simultaneously on methods to reproduce advancements without magic and on mass production of various developments.

It is one of the best kingdom-building and territory-management stories I have read so far. There are a few others that are equally good, but there are few works in this genre that are as well-developed as this one. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys such stories.

mine will be short. forget others saying it has many flaws. I can read long novels but I know for every 5 people interested in this kind of stuff only 1 will be willing to read the novel. I will address the"China propaganda problem". you know right this is a monarchy. this isn't even a communist party and I'm very sure with such situations that the author created and the corruptness and chaos of the land even an American author or a capitalist would agree that the temporary solution is dictatorial power to the monarch "the genius" in such a chaotic time

I'm actually surprised at how open, knowledgeable, and capitalist this Chinese manhua is. like seriously as a person who what others called"genius" considerate", "honest" and yet "arrogant".im surprised the Manhua element is soo far very western with only some region names being eastern. the manhua respect and remembers the roman empire's tech and legacy more than the Chinese tech. so it isn't having an easy time in China either. we gotta respect works like these. even though the Manhua is light-hearted compared to the real deal. well, it is what Manhua readers liked. a famous quote when I was little"I don't blind myself to what I believe, cause I don't want to be the first person to fall when it fails".good luck
btw I understand why it had to be a cross and Jesus stuff. no, not anti christen propaganda but rather trying to familiarize the eastern and western readers with Christianity and how old or roman catholic christianity may not always be right, or rather religious organizations may not always be right. but if you want a short answer.
it's mainly a publicity stunt and interest drag to make you feel relatable in this unfamiliar and uncomfortable world

Problematic

I've read the first 200+ chapters of this manhua. When I stopped to think about what I'd read, I realized this. There are a lot of similarities between the regime in China and the main character in this manhua.

One of the more egregious examples is how the main character institutes a policy of encouraging people to pay attention to their neighbors and report "suspicious" activity. It is initially coached as a way to catch spies, but is later expanded to other nonconformists.

Another is how, while there are socialistic/communistic ideas, the "constitution" the main character sets up is actually quite dictatorial. All state power is concentrated in or overseen by the main character and he has the final say. There is no separation of powers and no recourse.

The public "trials" the main character sets up are nothing more than public spectacles where the outcome is already decided and he just riles up the public to demand the defendant be executed. He doesn't even refrain from distorting the truth to achieve this. At one point, he summarily judges over a thousand people, executing over a hundred of them and condemning the rest to forced labor in the mines for years. And when he clears out the criminal underbelly, where he knows and we are shown there are people there only because of how poor they are or because they're being threatened to, the deciding factor for wether they are executed or not is whether they ever murdered (or raped) someone, with just a simple yes/no, regardless of whether they were forced to or whether it might have been to prevent something like a rape.

All these things are presented as positive and normal things in the manhua.

---

All this, in combination with images of an entire train/subway carriage in China being decorated to advertise this franchise, makes me think that this franchise is not just entertainment, but at least partly regime propaganda to present policies and actions by the Chinese government as normal and good.

PS: Why the heck would a fantasy world have a "church", with crosses as their symbols? Especially given that the "God" they revere isn't remotely humanoid and there is no crucified saviour figure nor any other reason to choose a cross symbol. Besides,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
it was founded by witches
. Some kind of sun or moon worship would have made more sense given what their "God" is, as well as their practices.

I would never have thought I'd say this but this manhua's level is far from the novel. Personally, I loved the novel. Some might not agree with me but I think the original novel is one of the best CNs I read so far but this manhua whether it's the art (except for character design) or the adaptation of the story is very mediocre. there are many worse novels which got good artists and went on fire while this one got stuck with someone beneath its level.

Avoid this, read the novel

I started out with the novel and am a fan of the novel.

This manhua is a blasphemy! Adaptation gone wrong.

Its got the atmosphere, the characters etc all wrong. The manhua transformed the novel into a romcom(romance comedy) anime high school kinda vibe, which is extremely far off from what the novel intended. The novel was grounded, realistic world with all the harshness, bitterness as well as the kindness and goodness of humans. It has a more serious tone and the cast have to struggle through obstacles and make tough decisions. This leads to a lot of focus on the character development and their relationships and interactions with one another. Empire management, technological advancement and the darkness of society were heavy themes intertwined into the plot. Theres many more defining various aspects but in conclusion the novel has a soul. The manhua trivializes ALL of these.

Several extremely important plot points were removed in favor of fan service shenanigans. The parts removed were essential in defining and developing the respective characters. Look, i can understand if you need to cut out content, you need to squeeze in the plot into the storyboard but to cut them out for stupid fanservice crap that does nothing to contribute to the plot? I spit on this manhua.

Honestly i can go on and on, how they got everything wrong, but i'm just too angry now. Hopefully later i'll throw in an essay lol.

The essence and very soul of the novel has been corrupted into the mess that is this manhua which does not resemble anything of the novel. Almost everything that made the novel got replaced with fanservice shit. I've seen a lot of adaptations gone wrong but this 1 absolutely screwed it all.

Pretty bad

I have not read the LN.

It's way too fast paced, and it seems the artist doesn't know how to properly portray a lot of things, sometimes making the scenes not make any sense. Characters behave erratic or downright stupid just to make the story push forward, and it's not the problem with the source it seems but with how the artist chooses to draw some encounters (that's based on the comments from ppl that read the LN).

The backgrounds and some items are made with 3d models which don't really fit the story that well (I think they are stock models), which in turn breaks the narrative in various places. The characters tho have a clean nice art, tho the female characters are portrayed a lot younger than their age would indicate. Overall the artstyle is too much on the cute side imo.

Quite good

Very interesting story about a modern guy that reincarnates in a fantasy world with witches and since he has no prejudices against them and has a good head on his shoulders he starts to doubt the common knowledge about witches and sees how they can actually help him and his town to move forward. All while trying to keep a low profile with the powers, like the church, and not going overboard with the altruism.
I like some aspects of the MC, specially how he keeps his head cool and thinks in advance, he doesn't have any special powers nor abilities yet he's able to see what needs to be done and bring the female lead (a witch) to his side and grow from there.
The story telling so far has been good too, characters are well presented and in a way it doesn't ruin the pace of the manhwa, the story progresses sensibly and the author foreshadows the events so it's clear he doesn't just make up crap when convenient and actually takes care thinking the aspects of the story.
The main weak point is how he uses the witches to bring about something similar to the industrial revolution, an witch industrial revolution if you will, in which the MC just progressively pumps earth's knowledge into the fantasy world. Unfortunately there is no good justification for the MC to actually know all that stuff, college graduates or PhDs or whatever his background was do not know the workings of all the inventions of the 19th century to the point of being able to recreate them, that's just not very believable.
Other than that, the art is quite good and the few fights have a good flow.
Overall, a good story that I'm looking forward too, I'd like to see how it fares after 100 more chapters or so.
