The story starts out nicely setting the tone for what readers expect to be a wild ride of emotional internal struggling as the princess of a fallen kingdom will find true love with the man who destroyed her kingdom. At least that is what the first few chapters will have you believe.
You could cut out the entire premise of Beatrice being a princess who watched her kingdom fall and it would change nothing about the story. She would still be a well versed slave captured after Elpasa fell and the ML would still feel bad about bringing her kingdom to ruin.
Beatrice decides she doesn't want to have after war PTSD and poof it is all replaced with warm fuzzy feelings until it is convenient to the plot.
Beatrice saves her servants from death by bravely stepping up as the princess, but in turn condemns them to a life of slavery. Beatrice never gets to see the tragic hardships of those maids forced into slavery and instead finds a sort of freedom and happiness of being a slave (even if she can't eat, sleep or drink without permission).
Beatrice does house chores, collects herbs and is on a 1 year trek with the ML ON FOOT, yet the author expects me to believe her skin and hands are flawless and silky, with not a SINGLE muscle blessing this girl? Not even some leg muscle or foot callus from all that walking? lol Even more ridicules is that they walked through a desert with not even a hint of sunburn on her delicate pale skin, why have a desert if NONE of the elements even matter?
The whole story just turns into fan service and your typical Mary-sue falling in love with Mr. Angst while they play with the dragged on drama of "do they know my secret" because the author didn't want to tackle any of the other war related drama.
With all that said, as long as you turn your brain off and don't ask questions like how come someone as fair and dainty as her never got a scar from her abuse, why the author didn't devote an arc to Beatrice overcoming the trauma of watching people die and why she never feels cold or achy when sleeping on the floor so much with no blanket, you'll be fine. lol

From the negative reviews, I figured I'd hate-read this series for a few laughs.... But as of the moment (ch 40) I'm actually really amused by the series. I find the MC adorable, and the slow unveiling of the duke's personality to be interesting. Aside from the glorification of slavery and the rare scenes of abuse at the beginning, the series is both thrilling and wholesome. I'm enjoying the main character's love for wild herbs a LOT.
The running gag of the prince pretending to be gay to p*ss off his homophobic father is glorious.
Will definitely be checking for updates as time goes on.

So the FL was a japanese middle-aged veterinarian in her past life, but after dying unexpectedly she was reincarnated into the body of a bastard princess born out-of-wedlock. She grew up as a slave, but one day is suddenly reclaimed by her father the king so he can marry her off to some gross old politician. The abusive marriage of two years finally ends when the commander of a neighboring country stages a coup and takes over her homeland Elpasa. She is taken as a war slave, but lives in fear of the commander who slaughtered her royal sisters and father in front of her. So she goes full Mulan and tries to pass over as a tomboyish commoner slave in the new country. She inevitably gains attention given her specialized medical skills and all that. yada yada yada.

Basically, the artwork is the high point of this series. You can enjoy the story, but only if you don't take it too seriously and don't think too deeply about it. It has a lot of plot holes and character changes that don't make sense. I have heard the FL is less of a doormat in the novel, but in the webtoon, she definitely is one. So....to sum it up, the art is to die for, the story makes you want to die.

Currently, going down the Isekai hole and this came highly recommended which I greatly debunk. But honestly has the sexiest MML Isekai manga, I've ever read.
I was greatly intrigued when the start of the manga showed violence and realness in a war manga. The war hero viciously striking down the FML's half sister was bonkers! It got me pumped. But, the violence was abruptly cut and it felt like a new mangaka was writing the succeeding chapters.
I can't justify how the FML easily forgives and rationalizes the MML's actions in war.
Total disconnect of characters personality from the beginning to the latest chapter. Personalities were forced to excuse the MML's earlier violence as him being misunderstood. 😒
Manga was also full of shoujo tropes. Clumsy, tomboy, innocent, captivating when she smiles and a good healer FML. While, MML is domineering, arrogant, jealous and tsundere. Can be easily forgiven if you want to survive the shoujo mangas, but this became irritating. FML looked stupid. 😔
But as I've said, the manga is filled with topless bishounen and getting out of bath scenes which provided fertilizer for my eyes. Has the sexiest MML ever but I have dropped since because I can't stand the character development and bad plot.

She didn't even seem scared of him. No traces of trauma as an abused bride by a toad of a minister and a war prisoner. It felt like we started with a new story and her past was erased. An unnecessary isekai plot was added. Since she came from modern times, she should have even been more cautious of him. Afterwards, we see her as his servant, the typical master-slave relationship, but MML's personality took a 360° turn. From a madkiller to a smiles innocently while returning a fallen bird to its nest man. It felt so cringy. I was thinking who this character was.

The way slavery is romanticised in this just doesn't sit well with me...
The story is bland and forgettable, it really offers nothing new.
The FL is too ditsy for my liking and people often mistake her for a child for a reason. And the ML is a whiny B***h. Goes around murdering people but Boohoo: his mommy doesn't like him so we should pity him.
I wish the artist would have been hired for a better story because it is so drop-dead gorgeous. I mean, really- Every panel is stunning.

I'm giving this a 6 because the art is good. (Wait, is that too high?)
But disappointed with how the story is progressing. While I love how the FL is nice and genuine and a total fluffball, there's nothing in her that sticks to me. Sadly, it's been a few days since I last read the last chapter and I already do not remember her. Oof. Which is sad because her character has a lot of potential. Like, she's nice, very kind ... and ... she's nice ....
Which brings me to the ML, who is super 10/10 eye-candy. Beautifully drawn but wow who made your character, bud.
Debating whether I should just drop this but I will wait for a few more chapters before I decide.

Art is great. Lots of details on the dudes. Art would not be out of place in yaoi. Actually, several times the ML, to avoid getting engaged (also he has some serious misogyny due to his childhood trauma), intentionally spreads rumours that he be getting it on with his men. And the art is very veee~eery detailed at this lol.
Other than that, this was incredibly disappointing. The FL kind of grows on you due to being a generally nice person. But so far, haven't found anything redeemable about the ML yet. Like in most shoujo, there's rarely good female characters other than the FL, but there's some serious female hate here.
Like, there's one really handsome character (officer under ML) who makes really abhorrent passes at FL due to her being a slave/princess. Like actual threats of bodily harm and sexual abuse, with a few soldier lackeys riding along. There's no repercussions at all. Nor is the situation treated with more gravity. Like, wtf. I get that this is shoujo but dayuuuum, that almost made me DNF this almost immediately.

The artwork is undeniably beautifully done. It's really rare to find details like this, so 10/10 for art! However the actual dialogue is cringeeeee-y. It's not as eloquently executed as I have hoped. I'm still going to continue following it, but not much expectations for the future dialogue.

The art is gorgeous, there are a lot of funny moments of outsiders misunderstanding, and so much fan service. Seriously if there's an excuse for the ML to take his shirt off, or get wet, or have a BL moment with another knight it's there. I enjoyed it up to like chapter 40, but suddenly in the second season chapter 70 the ML suddenly changes his behavior and it's a bit jarring. Also it feels like the art drops off a little so I stopped around there even though there's more
It's unrealistic. But that's why we're reading about princesses in a made up kingdom? Like I guess I'm a little curious about how this slave is eating and sleeping and not getting sunburn, but like most readers I don't really care because it's not plot relevant. FL is going to forgive a lot because she's not in a position of power and she's making the best out of it. I guess I don't really get the complaints
ML is not sweet or warm. If you want a cinnamon roll go somewhere else. He's busy with other stuff. I find this kind of protagonist more realistic than a man in power somehow becoming a goo ball over something as trivial as a girl. Like if these guys are that powerful, I just don't see them prioritizing a relationship over running their army or whatever. Like the ML cares, but he's going to misunderstand and miscommunicate a lot because it's not like he has the time to figure out an underlings feelings, or really any habit or prior need to.
There's barely any Isekai or Slave stuff, I think they were just trying to hit a few more tags on

The art is one of the most beautiful out of all the manga and manhwa I am reading. Seriously gorgeous. But while the plot is fine and the pacing is good, the characters are questionable at best and downright despicable at worst. The male lead is the biggest problem here. It is the usual typical formula used by creators, in making cruel male lead likable and swoon-worthy: give him a tragic back story and make him handsome, with rippling muscles. It works most of the times but there ought to be limit somewhere. And this story does cross the line,

because the male lead literally kills the female lead's step sister in front of her. But what makes it worse is how easily the female lead starts to accept the male lead as a misunderstood person after working as a slave for him for a short duration, because she hears all the other servants and soldiers talking highly about the man. Girl, it is one thing if you only hear about his cruelty. But you literally saw him kill your sister with your own eyes. It should not matter what others say about him when the evidence is right in front of you. Good grief.
