A manga that fulfilled its purpose

We all know, or at least those of us who actively read this magazine, how hard it is for an author to stay in Jump, and we have to admit it: Yozakura Family isn't a series born to be the hit Jump is looking for. It's a mid-table series that only serves as filler for shows that need to be at the top for financial reasons and to gauge how new series are doing, or so it seems.

The story isn't that innovative (imagine it's The Addams Family or The Munsters, but with spies), and the situations that occur are what you'd expect from a normal shonen series. What makes it special is the family. I think the relationship between Mitsumi and Taiyou is well-crafted, despite not being as romantic as one might expect. Each of the main characters is well-written. The only thing I didn't like was the story and the fights; they were the manga's weakest points; it didn't contribute anything that hasn't been seen before. I must say the first villain was well-written; the second and final antagonist was a disappointment.

It's a good series, but quite unbalanced. Sometimes you find good scenes, but other times there are tropes that are annoying to sit through.

If you want to learn about Jump and the series that ran through it, this is a good one to pass the time. It doesn't offer anything new, but it doesn't go unnoticed either.

Manga went from 7 to like a 9

Fantastic manga

Honestly its start is somewhat rough, like a 7, however after a cetain thing occurs, it becomrs 9 potential

I hated kyochiro, but after the certain event, he acgually became one of the better characters in the manga, he actually showed personality changes. The main mc and femc did too, but i was just fascinated by kyochiro.

Honestly really lovely, one negative thing i have is the end battle, idk why, but i legit could not keep up wtih the information. But regardless it was a really great manga

Wasted potential, it's the same thing every chapter

Taiyo encounters a challenge, Taiyo faces said challenge head-on and gets severely injured but succeeds, wash, rinse, repeat. There is literally no variety beyond who Taiyo is facing up against in this particular chapter.

For this being about "The Yozakura Family" it's shocking how much of a cardboard cutout each of the family members are. They have one personality trait and that's all they ever do. This is especially bad in the case of Mutsumi, whose personality trait is "Taiyo's wife". The most we've ever seen her actually do is cook for Taiyo or tend his wounds. She has no independence and gets even less page time than the other siblings despite ostensibly being the female lead. Despite that, every other character is utterly obsessed with her. Big brother? Classmates? Assassins? Head of the secret police? They're all down bad for her completely independently of her role in the family. We literally had three back to back chapters of different characters being in love with her and trying to kill Taiyo because of it.

I really like the characters conceptually. They've got great concepts and in any other series would shine. If only the author didn't sideline them to rehash one not that interesting idea over and over.

Taiyou and mutsumi are such an adorable couple! The eldest brother is really annoying but he does grow on you. In terms of action/fantasy, there's a lot of power imbalance, but I guess it'll be explained in the future.
