Spiral out of control
by HanaTenshiHimeko

Oh god, why Ueda-sensei, WHY?! I became a fan of her because of her other work Tail of the Moon and I had high expectations for this manga. But the ending was quite forced because the story spiraled it so out of control and there didn't seem a way to save the story. So I had a feeling Ueda-sensei didn't know how to end it either and just stick some stupid ending, hoping to satisfy her fans.

Out of all her works, this manga really made me hate her for creating this series. I'm too depressed to write a decent review, beside blabbing my broken heart over a poorly-made series.

Sorry to say, but not recommend for fans out there. It'll make people regret buying the series. Just stick to Tail of the Moon

Pretty awful actually

The romance between the main characters was nice, and I have to say in the beginning I thought this manga would turn out to be one of my favourites. But I grew to hate it progressively the more I read.
The main girl was really stupid and annoying. And that Nozomu character was a real psycopath, I didn't enjoy all his scheming.
By the end there had been so much irritating drama I just couldn't feel any joy that they were finally together it was like oh, well that was always going to happen so whatever.
Usually it's so nice that a couple overcomes every obstacle and gets together. But there was something really unromantic about this story, despite everything.
It was a chore to read.

Great manga from Rinko Ueda-sensei!

The art is fabulous, so is the story. Although the story may be simple, it has been well conveyed and portrayed. I wish the story was over 9 volumes, about 11 volumes could have satisfied me.

I got into this series because I saw the cover as one of the advertisements to some scanlation group or something. It looks suuuper shoujo, so I wanted to check out what the hell kind of story goes with this.

Sure it is cliche and stuff, but the effed up stuff that happens in between? That's gold. It's the only reason why I bother to keep up with this series, because Soichiro's been an A-class a-hole until recent chapters and is now humbled with poverty. Also with the recent developments with Nozomu confirming that he's hella cray? It's entertaining, in the way that you can't look away from an ongoing train wreck.

random.. *cringe*

At first I was like "okay... nice typical shoujo... crazy bishie... okay we've all seen than" then maybe 10 or 20 chapters in, things got batshit crazy. I can't relate to Sumi so maybe that's why I can't stand her commoner and shameless attitude. Souichirou needs to stop having his random moodswings. One minute he's all caring and sweet, the next he is screaming and throwing things (a bit exaggeration but you know what I mean).

Souichirou and Sumi are honestly quite cute together... when when he decides that he cares for Sumi, but Nozomu is batshit insane! he scares me! And so is everyone else! They're irrational and very one-sided. Sigh I tried really really hard to go through with it but I just can't. I don't like these sort of crazy characters.

It's a good read if you don't think about what you're reading.

I don't actually like Ueda Rinko mangas that much. And I imagine Sumi to be one of those mindless, high-pitched girls who usually annoy me. But despite this, I grew to like her. The characters have become more 3D in the last ten chapters or so (I'm currently on 54) and Sumi has become stronger, so I am pleased to have read this far.

The drama at the beginning was pretty easy to handle - after all, cliched plotlines lose their impact after being read twenty times - but there is one point when there is too much villanary (this feeling is amplified by the sheer amount of 2D characters who played a role in the drama) and too little character focus. I think it is Ueda-sensei's style, to run the plot at this speed, but the neglect of character development made it difficult to trudge through.

Her art is wonderful though, and I'll probably rate it higher if the manga continues along its current improved storytelling pace. ;>

rereading after dropping

I dropped this series I don't know around when there was way too much drama. I have to say things have gone a little bit better. The drama was toned down so I was really happy. smile

Plot: Flop Flop Flop Flop Flop Flop Flop
This manga had a promising plot. It wasn't original but it was interesting but then soo much drama was added into it. This is when I dropped the manga around the part were they were homeless. After many months I picked it up again there was still drama which made me cry but it had gotten better. I laughed so much when Nozomu picked up the axe. I don't know whether it was suppose to make me scared but it was HILARIOUS!

Characters: They all have no brains
Sumi was the stupidest and most naive character I have ever come across. I thought that it was planned like this: The dumb girl grows stronger throughout the series. WRONG. She has not gotten any smarter or stronger and is still the weak pathetic girl she started out to be. Souichou was you typcial arrogant rich guy who would eventually fall in love with Sumi. When he got homeless and started working like a real man I was all like 'WORK PRETTY BOY WORK! WHO'S NOT RICH NOW!!' I really hated him. Nomozu was probably the best character in the series. I thought he was a real gentleman but all changed when he tried to commit suicide with Sumi in the burning house. He got darker and more manipulative. He was the only character with development. The butler has no brain. After Souichriou I hate him the most.

Art: Was pretty smile
Probably the best thing about this manga

I reccomend this manga to anyone who really really really really really really really loves drama.

I don't actually get why people are saying it's cr*p ... I really like this manga and it is very different from all the other mangas I've read ...
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I got sooo scared at chapter 53 at the end when I thought he nearly died :( ... but then I read the latest chapter (54) and I saw the pain in Nozomu's eyes ... I don't really know what's gonna happen and I love manga with a lot of suspense :D ... Sure Sumi is stupid and she cries too much but what can you do! ... It's a love triangle between two best friends and a girl ... that happens everywhere but not in that way :) ... ok there IS another thing that I think is weird is how Nozomu is creepy and nice the next second?? WT*!!
I didn't give it a 10 because of the stupidity of Sumi and her brother -_-" ... but after all that I think that it is quite good smile

Okay, so I reached chapter 45 or so and I quit because I got tired of Sumi and all the excessive melodrama. A year later I decided to give it another shot, continuing from where I left off of course (I don't think I could stand rereading it from the beginning). So far, it's still melodramatic but I think I might be continuing with this for a while (until all the drama becomes too much for me at least).

Started off okay - typical shoujo, with the arrogant short-tempered rich guy picking up the sweet, naive, bordering on idiotic poor girl - and then just barreled off downhill.

No character development, especially for Sumi, very little in the way of a really interesting plot, and to be honest, I find none of the characters likable or relatable anymore, if I ever did at all.

What ended this manga for me, though, was the characters making so many decisions seemingly completely at random, with no logic whatsoever behind their actions. That got me so frustrated and annoyed I just couldn't bring myself to keep reading anymore.
