The art panels suck, but the protagonist keep me interested.

This is actually a great cultivation story, but has some negatives. First the panels are almost the same (even among action scenes.) The update wait is terrible, and characters are forgettable. Now to the positives. MC is basically always fighting. His kill count among, cultivators, bandits, giant beast, and ghost is too large. Its satisfying to see how much he has progressed since the series beginning, and is only getting stronger.

A little above average

This is a fairly by the numbers cultivation story. There's nothing that really sets it apart, which is often a problem for genre fiction. I'm not sure if this is based on a novel but I imagine it is because it has that sadly common problem where it sometimes skips forward in the plot and you're left wondering how exactly you were meant to know about the stuff that happened off screen thats being referred to.

However, as the subject line suggests this one feels a little above average. The main character does get a powerful "cheat". But he still has to work hard to use it and his progress is still relatively slow. It's fast enough to be impressive to his peers but there are people better than him and it's remarked that he's not that remarkable to the world at large. The main character does act a bit arrogantly towards his enemy but doesn't come across like the usual schizophrenic sociopath. He isn't unduly vicious and his character is consistent.

It's on the issue of character that I most strongly disagree with the other reviewer. From literally the first chapter the main character has one goal, protect his family (this quickly gets supplemented with get revenge). Every thing he does works towards this goal and he mentions it fairly constantly. His efforts all go towards it and his actions support those efforts and his goals. He made a joke once about wanting to stay low profile, it was literally a one off throw away line. Considering all his actions before and after he has zero problems with being in the limelight and seems to actively seek it out.

So in conclusion this is at best average overall but within it's genre I'd say its a bit above average. At the same time, some of the things that make it feel a bit different (e.g. the slow plot) also make it a little dull. So yeah, very middle of the road.

Mediocre => Decent

Generic and unremarkable is how I would describe this. It has all the expected cliches of the genre, all in the expected proportions and it will make you feel that you must have already read this but had forgotten because of how mundane it is. Add an MC that will start to act arrogant and prepotent as soon as he gains a little strength and he'll pretty much sick things beyond his reach but get them all the same just because he's the MC. Also, he's not even well presented, too many contradictions, like how he says doesn't want to attract attention but does everything to attract as much as possible, ej. there is a crowd that formed because one of the top outer students gathered many resources, yet the MC instead of waiting a few minutes for the place to clear out and avoid attention he just goes with his even bigger haul to humiliate the other guy and cause a scene, the consequences are as expected.

Edit: Unexpectedly, the MC becomes more decent and coherent after 150ch or so, and overall it becomes more enjoyable, which is an unusual sight, most series go the other way, downhill. It's still a very generic cultivation manhua, but it's entertaining enough.
