Interesting premise

What an interesting take. It's based on a LN, so i'm sure people could find spoilers if they wanted, but setting that aside, it's a pretty interesting premise. We have a vastly OP crusader/priest as a MC, who's pretty mission-oriented. Some might call him emotionless, but he's most definitely not. The downside (i.e., the driving force of this story) is the fact he's literally saddled with utterly useless trash teammates. The hero is quite blatantly a female disguised as a male (well, blatantly obvious to the reader, and the other teammates know as well. The MC doesn't, not sure how deep the 'conspiracy' runs). Then there's a uselessly overly prideful Mage who can only use fire, despite the fact that her family is well known for having multiple elements, and they're in a forest stage. Then we have the (female) swordsman, who can't use magic (thus no magic tools or armor, let alone skills) and has recently changed her sword-style, despite her family style being one of the best.

So clearly, the MC has to deal with this utter trash party, who are all underleveled, and the summoned hero is an absolute SJW, despite their one and only job being to kill the Maou. Add on the fact that the MC has an extremely sketchy overseer who's given him this mission with tons of ulterior motives, and the fact he can't reveal his true level, also adding on the fact that the hero is apparently androphobic. (The MC thinks the hero -male- is trying to form a harem, but it's pretty clear the hero -really female- either hates men or just doesn't trust them, or something)

Frankly, the entire story setup is made to sh*t on the MC. I don't think I've ever seen such an unfavorable setup which is clearly designed to screw over the MC, without it being a low-grade revenge p*rn story. Anyway, the story is basically how the MC is desperately trying to support the hero party in defeating the Maou, all the while literally everything is against him, from his supervisors to the hero party to the very fact he even gets KICKED OUT of the party, all the way on down.

So yeah, compared to 'normal' stories where the goal is defeating the Maou, here the enemies aren't the problem, its the environment and the hero party themselves (who, as mentioned, are utterly useless, and quite frankly counter-productive towards those goals).

Very interesting take on the whole defeat the Maou story.
