review from 2011

I'm not that big on relationships like this, I guess. I like the uke to be well taken care of, and for the seme to be decently communicative so that the uke can take care of the seme too. I'm not one to be bothered about age differences either, unless there's a gap in communication. I realize that BL manga are made of miscommunications and often some angst, but I like it when the seme can communicate better, especially if he's the adult!

Also, I felt sorry for Komai. I always feel sorry for 'the third wheel'! It's just frustrating, the whole mindset of 'things must be this way - true love for two only and the third one gets screwed (metaphorically)'.

The second story about the schoolboys was another I'm not that big on. I'm not big on bullying-because-you-like-someone, at least not to the extent that you'd rape them. They could have had something if that hadn't happened. Then again, there are many rape stories where they end up getting together anyway (see first story).

I liked Edgard and Dick's story, it was cute!

Well, now that I feel like this review has turned into a rant...

For all that I said, I still liked the manga well enough and I liked the art style overall.

fouloldron expressed it pretty darn well, especially about it being an insult to any rape victim. The setup is for a classic story about an infirmary sensei taking advantage of a boy crushing on his friend, but instead of using that as a way to get the friends together the main character instead "falls in love" with the idiotic grown up who continues to act like a douchebag throughout the rest of their story.
I did at first think the second story seemed promising but that's not much to like either, considering how the main character force himself on a guy without even a shred of motivation? It's stupid. As if they figure "it's yaoi it's fine" and went with it. There should have been so much more and an actual ending to it.
The only story worth reading is the last one but that was pretty cliché and in the end it was just a huge obvious disappointment. Still a little cute.
The art is pretty though. Only reason as to why I even bothered to read it all (and also hoping that the next chapter would be a oneshot worth reading).

Shiroi Ori wasn't particularly my cup of tea. The main character, Heita, was taken advantage of by the school nurse Tsuge, in exchange for keeping quiet about Heita's crush on his best friend Komai. After going along with it for a while, Heita realizes that his body and his heart crave Tsuge, so he abandons his crush for the man who owns his body.

I don't go into every story looking for a lovey-dovey connection, especially not this one, with a name like Shiroi Ori (White Cage). Heita and Tsuge's relationship is dysfunctional at best, abusive at worst, and the characters are rather static. Heita continues to accept Tsuge's cold attitude and verbal/physical abuse while thinking that being together is most important. It is hinted that Tsuge is a playboy and that he is serious about Heita, but a few words on paper don't make it so, and Tsuge's actions (other than a bout of possessive jealousy) don't show any signs of deep affection. It ends without any major questions being resolved.

The one-chapter story "Untold Love" is unexpectedly dark. As a one-shot, it didn't have any time to develop the characters or the reasons behind their actions, and, to a large degree, it suffered for it.

The last story, "Moonlight Melody", is about as typical as yaoi stories come, and it received neither a plus nor a minus from me. The childhood friend/bodyguard element could have been played up more, but it had a solid start and finish. Not amazing, but it won't hurt to read it.

Overall, I wasn't impressed. The storyline should never take a backseat to the sex, and that's how this manga came off to me. Dysfunctional relationship stories work if there are reasons behind it, and I felt like this manga was a bit shallow on that end. I give it a 3/10, mainly for the cute (if bland) "Moonlight Melody" story at the end.

A truly revolting story about a pedophile who preys on a love sick boy who then gets Stockholm syndrome. It's unrealistic and an insult to any rape victim.
The art's ok, but the story poor and unlikable.
