Intriguing concept, mediocre execution.

I loved the concept of a land swathed in darkness, illuminated only by an artificial sun, a cold world in which special postmen called Letter Bees deliver letters containing people's "heart" and protecting them from monsters.

But. At the end of the day, it's just a mediocre shounen. It's mostly about hyping up the male characters and their growth, while the female ones are written very poorly. It also fails to go into any interesting depth about the lore or history of the world, instead opting for series of short arcs all the way until later into the story, where everything begins to rush forward at a pace that doesn't really work.

In the end, I was left unsatisfied. It didn't have enough of what I enjoyed about it, and too much of the inconsequential.

A series that forget what the main plotline was.

Some light spoilers in this review upto vol. 12. Nothing super major, because the main story actually takes a small break before getting back into it.

The series is about Delivering Letters... Mostly. They're 3 main concepts to the series. The artificial Sun, Being the best bee & delivering letter and killing Gaichuu's which is the main enemy of the series.... I think. It's not entirely clear. The idea here is that the chads, the Main characters are people who deliver letters known as the Letter Bee's. However letters here are more than just simple words on a piece of paper but rather contain their heart or piece of their soul. Letter Bee's have a weapon called a shindan which uses the user's own heart/soul to shoot. They use there dingo's (sidekicks) find the weak points of Gaichu's and the Bee's shoot them dead with there Shindan. That's basically the story for the first 15 volumes until the author realized that the actual main story about the main character's mother was also a thing and very abruptly came back to it.

The main character is a very uncharismatic character for like 18 volumes of the series. A constant crybaby that really destroys the emotional weight this story could've had. When a scene does require him to cry it just falls flat due to how much you cannot take the main character seriously anymore. Its disappointing but what can you do. You can choose to not read the manga. That's a bright idea.

The action and the story was actually very underwhelming. Though I was initially interested in the story, the way it was unraveled was one of most boring and poorly paced ways ever. The story is 2 fold. 1 is finding the truth about the MMC"s mother and what happened to her. Why she was taken to the capital. However we talk a long break from this main story to fuck around. For about 10 volumes there is this big fucking gaichu that attacks peoples hearts. Huge problem but this guy is fucking annoying. Its literally a giant monster with no absolute personality. He's not vicious either. The *taking heart* basically borrows the people's soul so when the MC can inevitably defeat it they can return back. This completely destroys any sort of tension the you may get when the characters themselves are in no real danger.

The things I enjoyed about the series was the characters and world building which also fucks right off. However the actual solid moments of character interactions are just constantly bogged down with information about shit I don't care about. Imagine you are playing a video game and you pick a codex that's underneath a bed that tells you the minute details about shit you can't even connect to. That is the main dialogue of tegami bachi between characters. It sucks too because they are some great characters they are just severly underutilized. Jiggy Pepper and the Bearded Dingo were probably the best characters in the series.

The MMC"s Dingo Niche was a problem as well. I quite liked her as well. She was funny and had some decent action scenes. There is a running joke where she doesn't wear underwear which would be fine when its done once.... Not the amount the author decided to shove in to the point that it became very uncomfortable.

I was under the impression this was a good series but not a single person has told me this was a good manga so far as I was Live reacting on discord. Everyone told me that it was boring and I can see why. There are many characters that get sidelines, many plotlines that get dropped out of knowhere. It is incredibly disappointing.

If there is 1 refuge I can say about the quality of the series, its the quality of the ending. The ending is ballsy. Yes everything leading up to the ending was an asspull and the way the actual ending occurred was also an asspull. But the consequence that occurred did make me think, ok yeah, this is a decent ending to the series. Its not a well written series but the ending did take some balls. Either that or the author realized that he should just throw some action on the screen.

Overall. I'm disappointed. Gonna go back to playing Hades. At least that was entertaining. Due to the ending I did consider giving the series a 5/10 because I'm not made of stone damn it. However... Considering I've typed all of this out, they were moments where I did enjoy the series it was just far too few in between and if push comes to a shove I would not recommend this series.

Everything about this one is fine until the last few chapters. It seemed like the author didn't know how to finish it and just threw a bunch of stuff together at the end. The ending just wasn't satisfying because of that.

If you're looking for something new to read then give this one a shot, but if you decide to pass on it then you're not missing out.

Beautiful artwork, great world view and whatnot, a little disappointing at the end. Still my favorite series.

*may contain a minor spoiler*

Previous review has given a sharp point of view on what this manga lacks a little bit. This series has been forgotten due to mangaka's slow (yes, very slow) progress with the chapters, although he has pumped up the pace for the later chapters.

WHAT I LOVED:

It draws a great point of view on characters' "HEARTS". I loved every one of the characters and how the characters were drawn, and every time I reread, I find something I didn't notice before. Also, the artwork is absolutely gorgeous; one of the best if someone were to ask me.

WHAT I HATED

The story kinda wrapped up out of nowhere. It felt like he was rushing (considering how the shounen story progresses over the main character growing up) as the later chapter just has the main character change over a year (without showing anything in the middle). Maybe if he drew a couple chapters more about it, it may have been better.

Overall, don't get around the plot *too* much, as it is not the strongest point of this manga. It has great artwork, and I would consider this series as one of the "mental healing" series.

A Graphic Novel

For me, the very first chapter of this manga was like love at first sight. This is really a gem that deserves more recognition and I never thought that a story about postmen could be this good.

Perhaps I'm simple minded, but by far I have found every character to be enjoyable or/and interesting. Even though the protagonist is a crybaby I still like him.

The ambient of the story also impresses me. There's this sensation of adventure and discovery, but there's also a grey tone that make everything more thrilling and believable. But the thing that made this manga one of my favorites is that it is capable of delivering a certain degree of humanity, something that shonen usually lack of. This is actually something that even an adult could enjoy.

In general, this manga took me by surprise in a very good way. And it is one of those mangas that feels more like a graphic novel rather than a comic. I just hope for it to not let me down.

this one is good,
easy to read, nice art, slow pace but not boring story line

there is ecchi, but not the "accident by MC" ecchi
so it's good to read

one thing for big minus for me (until ch 66) is the MC (Lag seeing) is too crybaby
crying in any event, any condition
hope he can mature in next chapter

After wavering on the first volume a couple months ago, I decided to give Tegami Bachi a second chance. Needless to say I'm caught up to the current chapter and it all happened in one go.

At first, I expected this series to be bland, but I extremely misjudged it. This series is one of my absolute favorites!

Okay, art. Very unique. I have never read a manga with art similar to this on. It's also very beautiful. The artist's character designs are gorgeous, each with their own distinguishable features that express their personality and differences from one another. Absolutely brilliant. The backgrounds and setting designs are magnificent. I applaud this mangaka's creativity and overall imagination.

The story, thus far, is brilliant. I doubt that there any mangas out there with similar features such as this series. It's a creatively drawn storyline that grips your interest, an absolute page-turner. It just keeps you at the edge of your seat, wanting more. Just from the first chapter, you can already sense the mangaka's skillful imagination, weaving a story unlike any other. The characters are perfect, causing the story to become even more brilliant.

I really do admire this series. I definitely recommend it!

Strange but Good

It's very weird (a boy with a spirit bug in his eye, bullets made of "heart" and a girl with swords for hair to say the least) but very good. The illustrations are unique and have a neat ethereal, different feel to them but also a hard, bold edge that really appeals in a manga with some good action. The plot is also VERY intriguing, especially as the story progresses and you realize there's more to this world and it's postal system than appears. It's weird, funny, sad, and mysterious. My only real complaint is that the characters are the biggest cry babies that ever lived. Especially the main character who can't go a chapter without tears welling up whether it be for happiness, sadness, or relief, or whatever happens to be happening. And the names are a little strange. What kind of a name is Lag? Or Gauche (sounds like the paint i use for art class, lol, but the name grows on you)? And speaking of which, I kind of wish that Steak would just get eaten already (just kidding).

Yippie! Another good shounen manga!
I love shounen series and always following most shounen mainstream manga, yet i dropped some of them. And recently it's rare to found good series,
Thanks for someone who recommended this manga for me...
I really like the artstyle... and the story also pretty good. The fantasy world inside this manga is so captivating. At last, i get back my top 5 shounen manga again!
