Description

After meeting in a seaside town during their solo-travels, Kazushi Kimijima and Tatsumi Higaki find themselves as patrons of the same inn. The friendly Kazushi invites the pensive Tatsumi for a drink as a favor for his help during a prior sand-in-eye plight. Kazushi finds out little by little why his new acquaintance is so apprehensive. What will he do when Tatsumi unveils his deepest secret and with it, his deepest fear?

Unexpectedly Good

This is one of the manga that you don't expect much when you start reading it, but as you keep reading from chapter to chapter, you realize its a really well-written piece. It shows a general third perspective idea for the first chapter and after that we see each of their perspectives (our main two male leads) and the chapters have a good balance between past and future, and blend-in well together.

''Words are a curse.'' The whole manga revolves around that sentence and shows how much powerful words can be. Whether it be in families where children get hurt by their parents fights or with friends not hurting each other.

Tatsumi made Kazushi forget everything with his power and thus left from Kazushi's side, but Kazushi never forgot and he kept loving him, though Tatsumi didn't know that. So when they met again, Tatsumi acted like he didn't know Kazushi, and Kazushi acted like Tatsumi's power had worked and he had forgotten everything. Glad it worked out in the end, because both didn't want to hurt or lose one another so they did what they did. It's a sweet, pure love story. And I hope more people will read it.

Devastating no matter how many times I read it

Even though this ends on a positive note, I still don't let myself read it unless I'm feeling strong. The situation is just too painful, and the emotions are conveyed too well. The concept is unique and well executed, but I wish there was a little bit more detail.

As the other reviewers said, the arrangement of this story really helped to amp up the tension as if you read it in order for the characters, it isn't necessarily as epic feeling. The memories are colored so much more beautifully with the tension of knowing how Tatsumi feels.

I wish they had delved into Kazushi's reasons for holding back more, but based on the cultural expectations and the common theme for individuals to hold back their feelings to perpetuate a stereotypical heteronormative life, I understand why he did what he did, but it also felt rather pointless. That being said, I feel he had intended to reveal his feelings when Tatsumi used his powers.

If I'm right or not, we'll never know.

I'm a sucker for stories such as this. I can't really explain but the way the story flowed left me satisfied. The two main protagonist seems polar opposite at first but as they got to know each other, both realises the same pain that they face. I love how Kazushi says "words are powerfully powerless" when it comes to conveying what he wants. Especially when the one he wants to convey it to is afraid of them.

Wholesome is the perfect word to describe this piece of art.

The change in POV was really emotionally immersive and I am glad with how the author showed us both of their feelings to get us to understand why each of them acted the way they did. Now, I am not usually fond of melodrama in general, because they usually throw us huge amounts of unnecessary angst and misunderstandings. But in this one, it actually makes sense? At least to me.

Even with the overly used best friends turned lovers and "false" one-sided love trope included, the angst part was told in a way that wasn't dragged for too long but just enough to makes us emotional and hope for them to finally be happy. And as much as there were misunderstandings, realistically speaking I can relate to each of their sentiments and inner turmoils too. I guess it's all about selling your story in a way that makes us readers be captivated by it and relate to it and this one certainly did!

But my favorite part is how both protagonists acted the way they did while trying to be considerate of the other's feelings and always trying to put the other first before themselves. Their love was pure and beautiful, we could understand why they loved each other and I just adored every aspect of their relationship dynamics.

Last but definitely not least, the art is simply marvelous as well, the expressions and anatomy were on point!

So yeah, I am glad I read this work and am definitely looking forward to read more works of the same author!

At least it's different

Stories with non-linear narratives are not very common or intuitive and so they'll always feel a bit fresher thanks to that. This one in particular did a decent job at getting as much emotional pull out of that device employed as possible and ultimately it achieved what it intended to. I will say, though, that a few plot points could've been less cliched and glossed over, like for eg there was no justifiable non-OOC reason for Kazushi to withhold his feelings and trigger the strain in their relationship other than for the predictable plot purposes lol; it's not like he was actually in a morally difficult position like Tatsumi was. This kind of details is what usually lessens the impact of the angst for me and makes it feel more melodramatic than necessary, which I'm not a fan of. But overall this manga was still pretty okay and its nice ambience should be able to satisfy the mass just fine.

Putting the supposed "climax" of the story as the starter of the story was so exquisite. Even though that the plot was kind of predictable, the story has compensated that with being able to still make your heart feel the fluffiness of being in love.
