I just finished reading this series and just… wow. Lemme try to explain.
My impression of it at first was: “cool”. Firstly, I liked it for its unique art. The art style and bold lines and colours drew me in. I love seeing something so different from the other webtoons these days, which are all cut from the same cloth. So that gave it extra points.
Then towards 1/4 in, the story started being told from the perspective of a dragon. As in, they are almighty beings that don’t understand human emotions. There was one part that made my jaw drop and go “wow”. Very unexpected and emotional, but I loved it. I thought there was so much potential here - does Arin learn to become human and how to express and feel emotions? Sadness, grief, fear? I was curious to see how things would go.
At this point it also became an epic. Not just an adventure, but truly an epic tale. People died left and right. You can’t get attached to any person or situation because things will drastically change. There’s no time to process the crazy things that happened or your emotions because you just gotta do what you gotta do to survive. Up to here it was good and things were still consistent. You could follow the direction the story was headed.
But towards 1/3 to 1/2, things started going downhill. The bad guys kept winning, for one. Holy crap. They’re so hateful. Great job to the author for writing such a good villain I guess. But here the story started getting a bit too wild. It kinda felt like the author was too ambitious and had too many side stories they wanted to do.
Towards the end, things still were quite epic right until the end. The last fight was pretty nutty. But at this point things were just downright awful and depressing. It feels like the author veered off track from their original intention. It wasn’t consistent anymore and none of the previous things from before were addressed. Plot-wise all the bases were covered, but there was no character growth or development. It just continued to be plot… which was very unsatisfying.
And so lastly the ending just sucked. LOL. It was bad. As in, I didn’t like it one bit. Leaves a sour taste in my mouth. It made me go WTF?! And so unfair. Like all of that, all the past 164 chapters for this ONE chapter ending that barely makes any sense at all… wow. Just wow.
Compleeetely threw me off. That’s all I’ll say.
Overall good, but that ending tho. Don’t even know what to say. 😂 Laughing in disbelief rn. Just wow.
EDIT: Skipping to the end and reading the last chapter won’t work. You have to read the entire thing to really understand the frustration I feel and the absurdity of the ending.
