There's something weird about this yaoi. It had no time whatsoever to develop its characters, and yet I found myself rooting for them implicitly. Story beats in their romance occur quickly, but I'm totally okay with it. There's something electric and heartwarming about the tender romances that Takahashi Hidebu writes, and this is a prime example of what she's capable of accomplishing in a short amount of time.

Just as Psychedelia muddles the line between reality and fantasy, Takahashi blurs the boundary between the sexual and romantic love between two men while still making very clear its difference from familial love. She touches upon the LGBT aspects of the characters' lives without becoming angsty or heavy-handed. But, as I've noticed in a few of her works, she portrays a sweet romance without it falling into the overly schlocky voice you often find in shounen ai and shoujo manga.

Psychedelia is just bizarre. It's so short, things happen what feels like so much and so little, and she successfully left me wanting more than we got.
