Very Great! But not as well known.

From all the ecchi/comedy this is by far the most fun to read.
There other manga/anime similar to this like Assassination Classroom, Denpa Kyoushi, etc
But consider GTO as the first of kind and the best.

This is one of the best thing I ever read.I love everything about it.The comedy is one of the best I have ever read and the action is very good too.The only thing I didn't like about this was how the miyabi girl got scot-free(That miyabi bitch should have atleast gotten slapped or something) and how the author didn't provide any closure to onizuka's relationship with the girls.Same thing happened to the prequel and the sequel and the spin off's too.Urumi was one of the best girl and I hope the author would make them end up together in the future sequel.9.5 just because the Urumi x Onizuka ship is at a cliffhanger. Urumi x Onizuka forever.

Mangas like this are the reason I love manga and make me wanna keep reading them. Yet another of those mangas that i regret not reading earlier. That said, any words of review that I write now will only belittle this excellent manga. I always thought teachers were useless when all they'd do is just scribble the same textbooky stuff on the blackboard and leave. This manga changed that for me. Well, 'nuff said. It's a realistic and very well drawn manga. Read this manga if you still haven't. Highly recommended.

This is the classic literature

Anyone should read this. It's a most inspirational thing I personally have read in my whole life and Onizuka easily beats the shit out of any other character as a role model for any male human. GTO teaches so much of a real-world moral by example that it becomes something like a textbook on human behavior. Just go and freaking buy it and read.

One of the best manga I ever read

I loved this manga it was funny, dramatic and had great artwork. Not to mention some of the best writing that can be humorous, dramatic and/or meaningful because this does cover issues in Japanese society and covers a lot of themes: Broken homes, school bullying, abuse of power, corruption and so forth.

I loved Onizuka he was a great character who uses his past to help people and despite the comedy he is still very human which was what I liked. In fact almost all of the characters have humanity in them no matter what kind of character they are or start with.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Also Onizuka got to have great chemistry with at least 5-6 female characters. Also I liked the relationships between Noboru and Anko and also Kikuchi and Ai. Also it was a good move for Fujisawa to leave GTO open ended.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Onizuka and Azusa it felt more like Onizuka feelings to her were platonic and/or brotherly but there was great chemistry between Onizuka and Urumi and Onizuka's relationships with everyone including her was quite well developed

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Miyabi Aizawa was also an interesting nemesis for Onizuka at first I hated her but grew to like her as time passed when I learned what made her the way she was and how a plan to get back at someone who hurt and humiliated her got out of hand and set in motion the events of the manga

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Also Misuzu Daimon in the final arc of the manga was a very interesting antagonist despite her questionable methods and attitudes she is also human as we learn in the manga.

There is nothing short of the best character development I saw and I liked how everyone had a reason for being the way they are but also Onizuka coming in to help out.

This is a classic manga and please don't bother with the lame and boring 1998 GTO Live Action which I really hated but the 2012 live action remake was a pointless, cliche, shallow, badly told and utterly pointless load of tripe I mean seriously in the 2012 there was almost almost no character development, no chemistry and flat acting so take my advice and give both live actions a miss. Event he anime while incomplete told a far better story then either Live Action.

I regret not reading this back in high school

It took me at least a day to finish Bad Company and this manga. It's so good that the morning I woke up, I took my phone and continued reading GTO (I started reading Bad Company around 7-8pm the night before). I sure do envy them, such an enjoyable school life. But I think it has enough panchira to last the rest of my life (lol). The friendship though, is on a whole different level than what I know and had. I wish I read this back in high school for it might be the catalyst to enjoy high school life and do more enjoyable things. But damn, this manga sure make me feel I could go through high school all over again. This manga though made me feel how awful the people I called friends back then. But I had read GTO back then, I'm not sure if I would be able to take the level of ecchi. Still, I think Fujisawa Tohru-sensei is a genius, man. Genius!

One of my favourite series growing up!

It's hard to give an unbiased opinion on GTO, simply cause I love it too much!>

Don't listen to what people say about how the characters are static, boring, unsophisticated. One thing you have to keep in mind this was a shonen manga back in the day. Another thing It's not true. It's an honest story about how a feared ex-delinquent, stumbled upon a teaching career (due to a stupid misconception), and actually falling in love with his career, and for the first time in his life he (arguably) gets his shit together for the sake of his students. He's dumb, lacks common sense, and technically by our standards, lacks everything we expect to see in a teacher, but he has compassion- something that we now believe teacher's lack. He goes through the depths of hell to help his students and educates them on something more that's important than school work. He teaches them the importance of authenticity.

I love fujisawa tohru's works, my cousins used to have all his series, so I grew up reading them. I have to say GTO is by far my favourite, and it ultimately helped inspire me to become a teacher too (or atleast I'm on track to). It also give you (a dated, but arguably still functional) insight on delinquent culture in Japan, and explores why students abandon education & become what society deems to be "dysfunctional". The series also gives insight to how the institutional structure of the education system are slowly failing, and how we should revitalize it (in this case this job goes to Onizuka).

I honestly love this series, and I believe it's a must read for everybody. I grew up kind of like a delinquent, but honestly my teachers, and this series altogether helped me a lot. I believe everyone should, for the very least, give this series a try (like first 15 chapters and everything just starts moving). I also hope for those new readers to have a great laugh and enjoy his stupid antics, and overall perhaps find it just and inspiring as i do.

how did it get such high ratings...

ok, i didn't read any of the reviews before reading this manga. i only knew the anime (which i personally loved) and thought i'd give it a shot.

yeah, im pretty stunned now how this mangagot such high ratings.

1: the art. ok, this was quite some time ago (1997) but hell this is some crappy manga style. normally my eyes stop hurting after a few chapters, but this feeling of smashing my display continued on till the end. (stop bitching about "then don't read it if you dont like it" if you start following a story you want to know the ending...)

2. the characters. hm, except this 3-4 mains the charcters were only plain. once their part was over nobody missed them. onizukas character was kind of... strange. thats probably all there is to say about the characters.

3. the story. somebody tell me when they found this thing called story. its only about a teacher who would be best of if he would quietly sit behind a desk and listen to what adults tell him.

so yeah. i found the anime was quite amusing and had few parts to laught your ass of, but when i read the manga the good reputation i had of GTO was crushed.

just my 2 cents...

best comedy

This manga had the best comedy out of any manga I've read so far. (which amounts to about 150 series)
Onizuka's "teachings" lead to the most ridiculous situations anyone could get into.
It also touches some more serious problems and presents them in an understandable, comedic way without making them less severe.

Minus points for some minor plotholes and the ridiculous and lacking ending.
And the sometimes forced plot creation.
