...it may seem as just one of those drama shoujos and yet, when I reached chapter six, it felt like...

it really is a drama shoujo.

The oneshot was nice.

I was glad they got back together in the end. I understand where the girl is coming from but it's not really the guy's fault that he had a one night stand with the other girl because that happened before they met. The thing is it's the guy's brother's girl. That's where the guy becomes an ass, and the friend being a slut. It's an awkward situation when things becomes like that.
The story is quite straightforward for shoujo romance. The tensions did draw me in when they were present. Likewise, I had few laughs in some panels. Sensei is capable of bringing a seemingly simple rapport between characters into something to be amused about

I could go on and on,why this story and IKUEMI Ryo herself are sooo great, but in a nutshell: she just pulls off that thing when you read the manga, that you actually have to think about the characters emotions and actions, why are they looking like that now,or why does that scene come up when it has no relation to the current scene etc. and finally, later or at the end,the picture comes together. It's a great feeling, and after you read hundreds of superficial manga, with the same boring and melodramatic clichés,you kinda know what I'm talking about, and feel happy to find diamonds like these.

I liked the characters a lot, except Yuri, whom I couldn't relate to,she wasnt supposed to be an antagonist though, but something was off by her (maybe it's the fact that she resembled a really irritating character from Bokura ga ita with the same name on top of that biggrin scary...).

As the previous commenter said, the artwork might put you off,but it WAS published 1996,so what can we expect? Though i think it's pretty good, and somehow i love that they look more human than those over-the-top-too-beautiful-big-eyed characters from other manga. Well, the story itself makes up for it,even if you dont like it. wink

So do read it,though maybe you have to reach a certain age to enjoy something like this,as previously said,it's kinda josei, and less shoujo.

I really enjoyed this. The story is slow and well paced but you could feel the tension building in the background. A little inconsistency here and a little awkwardness there and you know ... you just know something is not quite right. This is the way drama is meant to be.

The protagonists are quite young so that's the reason this is still considered shoujo - otherwise, i'd actually have thought it's more suited to a josei category. The characters are all young and naive and caught in the trappings of youth. I know some people out there will feel a bit put off about a heroine who is so as utterly in love as she is with the main guy - but i feel it's warranted in this situation. You have this naive young girl who's really sheltered and then she meets this cool and collected artist type and BAM! The mangaka makes it really believable though and i was completely drawn in by the depth and simultaneously, the shallowness of her emotions. She loves him with this intensity that i don't think she quite understands herself - and then you throw in his past history and her own insecurities and you've got a helluva lot of angst.

I also enjoy the artwork a lot. It's a bit old i suppose but it's a lot better than a lot of the new stuff out there. Having said that though, the two older brothers are pretty dreamy =)

It's not been completely scanlated yet and i've only read the first half but i have high expectations that, like her other works, the mangaka will follow this through.
