this is absolutely amazing. The picture for this manga is kinda misleading. it isnt as dark as the cover looks, also the 10,000 yen business doesnt apply past ch 1 so its pretty much based on the psyren world.
Not breathtakingly original - but bundles of fun

A lot of people have commented that the plot of Psyren steals pretty obviously from Gantz, Drifting Classroom, etc., etc.... This is true. It does not break out of the shounen genre in any new or unique ways. It doesn't subvert convention or do anything you have not seen before - BUT, what it does do, it does well. Personally, I enjoy a solid, entertaining, shounen story with good art, and Psyren is just that.
Wow... so many bad ratings. Don't believe them.

If you're a superpower/fighting fan, then this manga will definitely hit the spot, regardless of what many people are saying. Don't know what they expect from a shonen. Just look at other shonen such as Bleach, Naruto, Hunter x Hunter, etc... It's much more original than people are giving it credit for.

Every shounen plot you can think of, all rolled into one little ball of generic art that looks like a dozen other shounen series. It will do when you need your average dose of "super-human kids, and the adults they beat up" or "shounen" series for the week.

It's like the mangaka took various scenes/scenerios from different mangas/movies and paste it together into Psyren.
Just to name a few:
Phone calls/phone booth from the Matrix
Slipped to the Ruined Future from Drifting Classroom
Cup Testing Ability from Hunter x Hunter
Game/Score/Competition similar to Gantz.
There were various other scenes which I couldn't quite place which manga I read it from. Well besides all of that this manga is pretty interesting (since it got most of it's ideas from awesome sources) . The main reason I'm going to continue this manga is because I actually like the main female character which is extremely rare. So I'm just gonna see how it goes. I'm up to volume 2. Hopefully the mangaka can refrain from using other's ideas in the latter volumes.

Definitely a shounen manga; a nice read, but nothing great.

Well, I totally disagree that Psyren is a Gantz rip-off. Firstly, Psyren is a typical shounen manga with that typical shounen feel (the use/introduction of the "psyren card" make the manga feel even more "shounen"). Secondly, the arts or characters design (and their proportions/anatomy) overall are closer to manga like Bleach (well, without the swords and ranking of captains etc.) or Code Breaker (read: close, not the same) - while Gantz feels more mature in terms of characters design (anatomy/proportion of the characters besides the sex and gore) and got more psychological elements in the manga. As for the art in Gantz, it's way more detailed that Psyren. Psyren is even less detailed than Bleach; it's more on par with Code Breaker. Storywise, I think it's okay, it's a nice read, but nothing great (at the moment).
Somehow it seems like gantz

I agree with AQVXZ11, this manga reminds me of GANTZ, go to another world , fight with the future creatures ( Gantz : Aliens) , change the future ( Gantz : Save the world ) . The characters are built somewhat like gantz ( I'm telling the truth) except the supernatural ( Gantz : wear special suit =)) ) . Gantz's fans shouldn't read this manga

I have to say that Psyren is probably one of the best mangas I've ever read. A few chapters in, I was rather hesitant about the plot because it seemed really overused (Gantz anyone?) but as the manga developed I fell in love with it! Not only is the artwork great but the mangaka also really knows how to tell a story. In 50+ chapters, we are already making headway and hinting towards a resolution. This is something I really liked about the manga (considering most mangas like this just consists of nonstop fighting and minimum profluence even through 100+ chapters). The great mystery/love/drama/friendship doesn't hurt either.
Anyways this manga is a must read. If you are feeling a little bit bored in the first 20 chapters, dont worry, it definitely gets better! =)

I think this series is great, i like the art, the plot develops at a good pace, the characters are developed well, and the powers they use are a great refreshment from the typical shounens where swords and fists are way too common.
Personally i don't see how others can say its predictable or a bad read =/
I mean its not a mystery genre so of course it isn't going to have a hundred twists and turns before you come up with the truth. It gives you a few teaser facts and draws you into reading it to find out whats going to happen, while giving you room to come up with your own theories.
