From Aerandria Scans:

During the time when the world is full of barren lands and big ships sail out to the vast oceans, a very rare type of sub-human--mermaid--was born. Normally, they have white hair, but only in water does the color change. Among the aristocrats, they are traded for large sums of money. Hisui is a merman with scarlet hair, and he's kept by a lord. However, as he's stolen away by the pirate Ikuta and gains freedom, they start their journey together!

shonen ai..?

Personally, I love mermaids/mermen so this really jumped out for me. As I was reading it however, I had to check back here more than once to make sure that I didn't misread. Kaizoku no Ningyo gives off a LOT of shonen-ai vibes. That being said, I have nothing against slash so this was a fun little read. I do wish the whole mermaid thing wasn't just limited to hair. That only thing water/mermaid related was the fact that
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
the hair color changes in water... like, he seems to be a little bit better at swimming (when he pulled the soldier outta the water) but that's seriously as far as the "mermaid" bit goes.

nice art, stereotypical plot... read it if you have nothing else to do I guess...

I just feel the Shonen-ai in this story... Even if it's not publicly recognized as Shonen-ai, thats how I will see it.
The love the mermaid/merman thing but I think it could be more than just magic hair...

Typical shoujo

Mermaids with no tails... again... GAH~ I came looking for mangas cause I was CRAVING for mermans, more like, TAILS! FINS!

But anyways, in all due fairness, this manga is by no means bad. It just... falls short for my lust for mermaids, the fish kind. It's been quite long since I read such a typical shoujo manga that doesn't suck.
You won't find all those twists and turns, there isn't much that comes up unexpected either. It's not too original, pretty typical like I said, both in shoujo and shounen-ai terms. I probably won't ever list this in my favs. However, it's still cute. By no means suck. Perhaps that's cause I'm a sucker for fantasies? IDK.

The art's pretty good, but again, quite normal. It's not really an original style. But then again, you don't find originals that often nowadays. What's popular these years, especially in the shoujo genre, they very often look the same. It's not bad, I like the style, it's clean and refreshing. The one thing though, due to sheer amount of mangas that are drawn the same way, it simply doesn't stand out enough. How should I say? Not enough personality? Great art but... not enough impression.

All in all, it's a very typical shoujo manga, with the fact that it has pirates and mermaids without tails. Great manga, good read, but can't say it'll stand out too much from the crowd.

Really sweet and simple

So, yeah it's shoujo, really sweet and simple atm, the characters are cute. Everyone is just sooo likeable in this manga, and yeah there are BL undertones to it or bromance or whatever it is, but yeah, quite adorable. The hair color changing is quite unique, the whole storyline is quite original. I'm enjoying this so far. The art style may not cater to everyone's taste, but it suits the atmosphere and the characters very well. smile

Do you like bromance?? well... THIS IS the right choice.I've read it till volume 4 (thanks to the publisher on my country), from that, I know even though it said shoujo, the differences between shoujo and slash here is.. very VERY THIN!
