Refreshing

After reading the summary I half expected some epic story about an all powerful Dragon Mage traversing across the world in an attempt to collect baby dragons and protect them from the evils that are trying to abuse their power. But that was not the case.

In this series it was more like the day to day life of Maciel and his 7 baby dragons. Nothing really epic or end-of-world like, unless you count someone eating someone else's piece of cake the end of the world, which to a kid it could very well be. XD Based on the series image on this page, I guess I should have guessed it wasn't the common save the world plot that I'm so used to seeing. Ah, it even says slice-of-life, shows how observant I am.

The drawing style in this manga was clean and well drawn, not too much detail but not too plain. The chapters and stories were more episodic than a plot, but they seemed to add together somehow without feeling very choppy. They dealt a lot on details of growing up for both the baby dragons and their guardians. In each I could see the lesson they were trying to teach very clearly.

Each character was well developed and well placed in the story. Not one character was the cliche 'perfect' character, or the 'perfect' character with one major flaw. I like that. There was no real angst or romance either.

In a sense, this was so sweet and cute it almost made my teeth rot, but in a good way (who needs teeth anyways). XP I couldn't stop reading it. People that like a definite plot and a little more action may not like this manga. I'm usually one of these people, but I'll make an exception for this one. The characters were all so love-able. I like the calm everyday-ness in this manga, ordinary but with a slight magical, fantasy feel to it along with a bit of mischief from the dragons to make you chuckle.

All in all, it was very unexpected but I loved it. This was a refreshing read. I hope the sequel gets scanlated by a group soon. I'd love to continue reading the mini adventures of these little dragons and their people.

How can I say this clearly.... hmm... an unexpectedly heartwarming light manga. It's unexpected because I thought this is about fighting or adventure stuff (considering the magic and dragon elements).

But really, it's actually about parenting and babysitting. Maybe it's because I'm a woman, or maybe because I'm bored with actions stuff, so the manga clicked with me instantly. Not to mention the babysitters are cute guys... oh, I'm melting *sigh~*.

The baby dragons don't really talk, so I wonder how they communicate. Perhaps it's telepathy, but I'm vouching for face expression reading (because their expressions are nicely done). Watch out for Nata, the cool eldest brother!

Honestly the first time I read the series in struck a cord of the familiar with me, and now after a while I can name that cord this is similar in taste to old shows like Rugrats and Muppet Babies only missing the scenes where the kids imaginations are going wild, because here a lot of the times the scary stuff is real- except the threat is often exaggerated because- well- they are little kids.

like Omochi said, it is extremely calm story, i know one or two slice of life and being drawn by women, uh josei, Mushishi(oh my bad, it is seinen) is recommended too. But, it is way too different. Well, i'm captivated by the story and looking forward for two other corseltel series. Hope some groups will take the series.

well i'm a man, and i'm used to read seinen, shonen stuff ( i can't stand huge eyes and romace of shoujo) i guess this josei is good.

Indeed, it could get simple and cheesy at some point but I like the original idea and the way the story develops. Lovable and not two-dimensional characters, peaceful atmosphere plus nice variety of details make this a good read IMO.

In a world where human and dragons came to an understanding, the first gaining magic and the others... er, baby-sitters, meet the powerful (albeit peaceful) dragon-mage Machel and the seven dragon childs in its care.
But troubles keep coming to their secluded village...
Or so it seems - I don't care much for chinese raw in my utter ignorance of chinese written languages.
Its cute and may well become interesting.

interesting but not interesting enough. The story seem to be a little too simple and after awhile can't hold my attention. Recommend only for those like children books' kind of story.

by reading this manga, i understand why god let war happen, it might be for peace keeper, peace warrior, and peace lover to do some hard work. IF world got no bad things happen, the place we live in will be like this manga, boring. nothing really exciting happen, all within control, = all boring.
