From Vices and Devices:
A series of one-shots with a focus on how people around the protagonists deal with knowing someone who's homosexual, rather than the gay relationship itself. The subject matter ranges from schoolboy love (one with unexpected results and one that's more traditional of the genre) to coming out to your family.
From Netcomics:
A protective sister tries to stop a group of homophobes from harassing her gay brother. Little does she know that the object of her brother's affections is none other than their leader. Meanwhile, slick young student Kanome finds his crush studying in... More...

I ordered this books because it seemed really different and interesting. And it was. To a certain extent. There were seven short stories and some extra material in this book. Some stories I liked more than others but none of them really stood out for me as something great.
The good thing about the first story "Drive a nail into love" was the likeable female character. The sister really was cute and easy to relate to. Not many of those in yaoi... This story at first glance seemed the most interesting to me but the brother's dilemma was never really fully dealt with or brough to any kind of satisfying conclusion. It was touching but I felt like I was left hanging.
The second story "It's my chocolate!" was perhaps my favorite. But it was more a family story than a BL one. The characters were cute though and I felt for the protagonist. It was a bit chaotic but that was probably on purpose!
The third story "A villain's teeth" I didn't like at all. I guess it was a different outlook on the whole yakuza theme but it was so mundane it was creepy. Plus it had a bit of really graphic violence out of nowhere. What was the point?
The title story was a bit weird but strangely entertaining. I liked the characters and their dynamics but the whole idea for the story was portrayed in a way that left much to hope for. It was too humorous to be deep but at least the ending was really funny.
The next two stories "Jump across that fire" and "Fool 4 u" were both to my liking and I guess you could say they were more traditional BL stories than the others in the book. The first is about two students, set in a library. I loved the homo erotica book references. It was simple but cute. The latter is about unrequited love. A bit of a rape warning here though it wasn't anything explicit and it didn't happen between the main characters. Still, I was a bit shocked. Mainly because it was so realistic.
The last story "Photogenic" was dumb in my opinion. But it was short so it's not like I wasted a lot of time reading it. It was more like a short joke really than a proper story. But the puch line was quite funny.
All in all it was different and, if that's what you're looking for, go for it! If you want something deep though, then this is just mediocre. I wasn't really moved by any of the stories. Not that they were bad just...meh. And the art isn't a redeeming factor either. Much like the stories, the artwork isn't ugly but neither is it beautiful.

When I first read this volume of oneshots, the first story didn't really stand out to me. I guess I read it too quickly or something, because the second time around, I really loved the first story. It's...fascinating. There's so much to be had by just observing the characters. The connections and relationships are so simple, but yet not at the same time...
My Chocolate was a cute oneshot. I liked the characters more than I liked the story though. The third story with the crime boss' daughter was really interesting too. It's really a simple story if you look at it(guy A likes guy B, nothing ever happens of it), but the way the characters are connected makes it unique. I can't think of another story with characters like that.
There was also another story about two classmates. One was straight and the other was into the straight guy. This one was probably the most...graphic of them, I suppose? It was also interesting, in a way, but the ending was also comedic^^ LOL.
I feel like the story with the coworkers could have been developed better. It was the title story, but it didn't pack that punch that title stories usually do. I felt that something was missing, and I even reread that one a few times, but I never quite got it. If there was a deeper meaning, then I might have missed it.
Fool 4 You was cute and funny, haha! That love interest really is such a fool. And the MC is pretty foolish too...Pretty simple story here. Not much to say on that.
Photogenic was funny too! Definitely recommend.

The volume had multiple short stories in it. Some were better than others, but overall it was a good read. The first story with the older sister was cute. The second story called It's My Chocolate was one of my favorites in this collection. I had to feel sorry for the poor guy stuck looking after his rude and squabbling siblings all the time because his parents were never home. The 3rd story with the dying crime boss was good, but a bit odd. Definitely in the love never fulfilled category. The title story with the co-workers was cute, but not one of the better ones. Fool 4 You was one of the better stories, the character conflict was nicely handled. Photogenic was also a nice story even though it was very short. Overall it is worth reading. The stories aren't detailed, but they are little slice of life views into these characters lives. You don't have to know their whole history to enjoy them. The art style is simple, but nice.
