Description
A wildly imaginative trek into the deepest realms of human beliefs and the mysteries of the universe. Daisuke Igarashi's amazing pen can recreate anything he can imagine on paper, resulting in beautifully chaotic, maddeningly detailed scrawls of pure wonder. A true celebration of the human imagination.
When deep emotions come to the head, the witch that dwells in the heart awakens - the gorgeous and literary illusory tales begin.

Despite the impressive style and captivating premise, I found the eastern philosophy that permeates it rather disagreeable. If you are a fan of such mysticism, you might enjoy it more; to me, it was rather pretentious and nonsensical.

This manga has some good and bad stories, but its strongest point is it's visual imaginary which has stayed with me for years. The story of amazon witch, in particular, I still think it could be made into a good horror movie.

The first couple stories were... interesting (although they turned out to be a lot more chuuni than they initially appeared), but the remaining stories are just downright pretentious, foregoing intelligibility for a facade of depth. Some really cringy moments, especially in the last story.

this manga remind me of diana wynne jones' books through the unusual magic, sedate pacing, and the little gems of truth scattered here and there in the texts. any magic fans will be satisfied with this, truly a near masterpiece in the fantasy genre.

Upon finishing this, I had to re-read it again--although I simply couldn't reread the end of the second story arc while trying to fight insomnia.
It's worth reading for the art alone, but the stories will captivate you by playing on your assumptions and our history and science are so deftly incorporated into the world-view that you have little to no disbelief to suspend.
Overall, it reminded me of how I used to stretch out upon the grass as a child to try to feel the earth turning. And that memory gave me a feeling of peaceful, tingling energy that I had forgotten how to access in a while.

Majo easily ranks among my all-time favorites. Absolutely breathtaking art, combined with a narrative talent that weaves together the plots in an unconventional, but absolutely flawless fasion. Although each of the stories encompasses an entirely different setting, they manage to intertwine a variety of extremely powerful themes and profound thought that challenges the very structure of many beliefs. It is exceedingly rare to see something of this level. I recommend this to anyone who is willing to think beyond the mundane storytelling that is so seemingly ubiquitous in the manga world.

Witches presents a rich tapestry of tales spun of mythology, folklore, religion and even technology, encompassing beliefs and symbols both old and modern. The rich and symbolic art only adds to the intense experience. I highly recommend this series to anyone interested in unconventional storytelling and in stories of such calibre rarely told.

The art, as stated before, is beautiful, enough so for one to get lost in its imaginings.
The plot within itself is freely flowing, but very powerful and thought-provoking. If you let the raw plot itself flow through you, you will also find it provokes many a feeling as well.
Overall, this manga was magical and wonderus. Very good.

The art is gorgeous enough to induce cardiac arrest, and the concepts are fascinating enough to keep you reading. People looking for "traditional" plot structures will probably be disappointed, but if you're willing to free your mind and enjoy the artistic thrills this manga has to offer, then you'll have discovered a gem.
