How funny.

I laughed so hard at the first chapter. And as for the mother, she is pretty narrow minded, but I view her as a plot device. I mean, the mangaka has to have a reason to throw her heroine into an all boy's school instead of the reasons that are already being used, to make this manga stand out more. It also eliminates the need of the normal circumstances that normally happen in these "Girl pretends to be boy in all boy's school" manga, such as the parent/sibling coming over to check in and then get enraged and surprised, the hero being in shock that the heroine is actually a girl, etc.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
But it doesn't mean that the mother isn't in the wrong or anything, or is it all her fault. The idea to enroll Kei into the school was Yui. But yes, it's the mother's fault that she agreed to it.

Also note that Japan's acceptance of homosexuality can be negative. And same sex marriages aren't allowed there. [offtopic] Not that I have anything against being gay. Hey, if you're gay, it's okay. [/offtopic] But this is a manga I'm most likely going to remember, not like those shoujos that irritate me so much with excessive whining and running away. At least the heroine is facing her problem. This is just the first chapter though.

Personally, I don't really care about all that homosexuality 'controversy'. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm support gay rights and etc. But this is just MANGA and I just want to enjoy it without all those things interfering. I also can't help but suspect that her being a lesbian is kinda just to parody other genderbenders-1 girl- boy's school type of stories.

But I digress.

Anyway back to about this series, as a genderbender , I think this is a very good and funny portrayal. I like how this is kinda a parody with the way it makes fun of older genderbenders (where a girl forced to go to an all boy's school) and the logical reactions the characters have. I also like how the main character actually looks like a male bishounen and is totally into girls, as well as her interactions with all the other strange and wacky (can I say YANDERE? XD) characters, which all makes series way more fun.
Overall, a very good read.

(in fact, you can kinda see this as a straight-version of [m]Mariaholic[/m] at a boy's school, albeit the main character is still a lesbian. XD )

Great manga, story is funny enough and art is awesome.
Rare you can see manga that deals with mentally ill homosexual tendencies. Most coincider this deviation as "normal" and try to pass this troublesome aspect.
Giving 10\10.

Hard to judge on one chapter...

I'd keep on reading it. It is funny and not enough has happened to figure wheter or not is is worth a read. Plus a couple more charatcers seem to need an introduction... Art-wise it's good and the expressions and background are really well done. There is not one dull panel.

--Everything below can be referenced to what was said in the previous comments.

I'm not sure yet that the manga treats homosexuality as an illness. (As 27raven said.) The only character so far who does treat it like that is the mother. However, she is depicted as irresponsible, coercive, bitchy and self-centered and we aren't positioned to take her opinion very seriously. There is obviously something wrong and small minded in how she is forces her child to conform to her views. I'm not sure if the mother's flaws will be dealt with but her sheer disregard of anyone but herself makes her quite a dislikable and repulsive character. But who knows - the mother may have more depth than she seems to now. (ch01 pg9)

So don't judge the manga quite yet. Her views aren't the heart of the manga.

As x0mbiec0rp said, it is unhealthy for the protagonist to want to faint and vomit in the mere prescence of males. Though she prefer girls, her aversion to boys is a bit too excessive as she completely refuses to interact with them. (Just sitting in the classroom - [thought] "Argh, damn you boys! Don't get close to me!")

We aren't positioned to completely support the main charatcer either - though she has the right values (eg. what she told Yui when talking about Yajin Hospital) and clearly isn't stupid, she is a little weak willed and she tends to avoid her problems. She too has some problems to deal with.

So beyond her orientation, I think (or I hope, at least) that we'll see some growth in her character at the school (despite how wrong it was of her mother to force such a thing onto her daughter).

I must play the devil's advocate

Within the story it is indicated that the daughter has an inborn prejudice to males. This IS a negative condition. It's extremely negative, causing her to vomit and faint. This is not natural, nor a healthy psychological state. This is also probably the cause of her lesbianism, rather than an actual preference towards females.

Also notable is that the mother, a character in the manga, is allowed to be as prejudice as the author wishes. This does not necessarily reflect upon the author, but just upon the character herself. In the story she is even recognized as a selfish bitch, looked upon with contempt and slight distrust by the protagonist. The story does not glorify her opinion.

And as for review, this manga has a protaganist who reminds me of Tamaki from Ouran Host High. The strength of the characters leads me to believe that the manga will be humorous, and although some elements might seem distasteful, with a critical analysis one can see that it's not so heinous as some might express. As for a full review, I'd have to wait for more chapters to appear.

...the first chapter left me a really bad impression..especially the latter pages..

Spoiler (highlight to view)
I'm very shocked really the part where the mother said she 'wanted to cure' her orientation and sending her to an All-boy's highschool to marry a rich guy, have children and wanting to 'hold her grandchildren' someday. She also wanted her daughter to 'grow up' like what she wanted her to be....like a 'princess'..

Seriously, she already had TWO DAUGHTERS, and yet her self-centredness makes SH*TTY excuses like these and even blames her husband for making her daughter inherited his 'thick headedness'..

Personally, she is the most offensive manga character I've ever encountered in my entire life.. (even if I've only seen her in the first chapter) but really, I am offended...this girl's 'mother' is unbelievably selfish and 'lives in her own WORLD surrounding by her own denial and her selfishness!

Spoiler (highlight to view)
HER DAUGHTER HAD THREE RELAPSES IN JUST THE FIRST CHAPTER FORGODSAKES!!! And yet she casually said on the phone that she's gonna 'cure' her daughter's sexual orientation!!?

I would seriously kill myself if I was forced in that situation! And lol, On Page 10, she even SLAPPED her daughter for wanting to go to an All-girl's Highschool!!?!!?!??!? And that Japan doesnt have SAME SEX marriage laws..SRSLY,WTH WAS THAT?!

Honestly, I cant BELIEVE how this mangaka could THINK of creating such horrible character or themes that seriously challenged individuals' sexual orientations!?!?

..and then again, it's just one chapter..I shouldnt expect much from a gender-bender romance COMEDY shoujo....but..we'll see how far this manga goes..

I found this manga rather disturbing..

After first chapter:

This manga certainly has very funny moments. But the main theme that mother sends her daughter to all boys school (where she has to hide her sex) to change her sexual orientation is rather disturbing for me.. It's not how mother should act and it's really not funny even though the manga makes fun of it. Homosexuality is neither an illness nor mistake. I bet the main girl will fall for some guy later but that's not how it works in real life..
