If you understand the fear of eternity, and how natural evolution of a species may end, you will consider the idea of the story much more than "okay".If you know why the comrades were grant power, and about the holes in their hearts, you will not think their powers are outrageous or unreasonable ( the powers do have principles and weakness). How can a person suffered, then got special power, doesn't act superior ? you may think they are conceited, but it proves that their minds are NORMAL (to some extent, though).
And to someone who thinks "Like common, treachery is such a simple thing, everyone can live with it and it is so easily to be forgiven" then you must be living in a deviating and twisting society(at least that's what ya think about it). yeah, i don't like the protagonist's character, either. It's a bit similar to naruto, but it consistent with the plot.As long as Taisuke realized that hirose is a senseless murderer (when he blew up the girl with the braid into dust), they were no longer friends and to think that's brainless, i doubt that you understand anything.
well, i highly recommend this manga for ones who read Gantz or Air gear (lol),for a change in the atmosphere. And i just assess the manga, not the mangaka or whateva so i don't care if it's original or not( artwork is really awesome, especially the cover illustration!), may be it's under rated in Japan.Up to now, this is definitely more than an average manga, i hope it won't let me down in the future.

The art is fine, the story is okay, but the villains that have power to kill kinda =_= i dont really like the way they are.
They just have the power and started to act like god or something, quite conceited....

Fun ride and definitely not typical brainless shounen fluff

This manga is an enticing read. The manga touches upon various themes revolving around social interactions and life decisions, and how it affects people's lives, ranging from familial interactions to interactions with strangers, to bullies to friends. It connects characters in a subtle way. To me, it manages to pull off character interactions charmingly.

I've also read that some consider it shounen, but based on the themes it touches on which essentially revolves around life in spite of death, it is definitely seinen.

Younger readers might not get it (god knows why), but the manga is about more than super powers colliding with each other. It offers a variety of insights into life and what it means to be a good person.

The character interaction in this manga might seem stiff and brainless the first few volumes because the protagonist appeared like the typical shounen lead who'd show mercy to anyone and everyone, but in the later volumes (I'm up to 9), when it gets deeper into the plot with more characterization built up and back stories revealed, the protagonist stops seeming so typical because there's more to his actions than just being good-natured. As for the reasons behind his actions, I suggest you read the manga.

Also, as of the end of volume 8, or when the second phase began, Taisuke's probably one of my favorite protagonists right up there with Guts and Kurono.

dude you cant blame the manga for not being original most mangas arent orginal they are base from different ideas people put into their believes and also the characters base from the authors perspective gives them the right to make the character believe what they should because they live through their own lives with different experiences

I started reading this because of a friend (seriously, this manga has way too little love... it deserves SO much more) and today, I read it up-to-date. As in, all 15 volumes (found some Chinese raws for the later ones that weren't translated.) And I have to say, after 15 volumes, I DEFINITELY want more. It is just that good, I'm telling you.

I don't know why the heck people would call this "unoriginal" and "save-the-princess" or whatever. I for one have no complaints. I think the plot is definitely interesting and fresh, with lots of plot twists, action, and a lot of depth. The characterization is so realistic, and I don't think any of their angsty pasts were overdone. There's also some good humor added in once every few panels, so it's not all gory and depressing like you'd think from reading the summary.

I, personally, am IN LOVE with the art. Aside from some shonen-ish short miniskirts and big boobs or whatever, it's really good art. I really like the mangaka's style, he's amazing at the perspectives and the angle shots and the action scenes. Some mangakas, you can totally tell they have no idea how to draw a person punching or throwing a high kick, but with Alive, it's just PERFECT.

Now I just wish that they could release the next volume soon 'cuz THAT WAS A CLIFFY!!!!111 I really hate those.

This must be some kind of Naruto sindrome - if somebody betrays you, instead of giving them a good slap and send them to hell, you start whining about it, and insist on how nececery it is to save the guy from himself(?). Like common, treachery is such a simple thing, everyone can live with it, that's why in families the husbands are allowed to hit on every woman on earth, because treachery is so easily to be forgiven.

Talking about next part, it somehow really did remind me of Elfen Lied ANIME.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
There was one beutiful moment were guy hugs Lucy that although she is a crazy murderer and killed all his family he still loves her (in manga thanks god it wasn't at least so weird). Here it was the same case: yeah I know that you just tried to kill all those people, but that's OK let's just be friends and live happily ever after.

Either mangaka has lived an isolated life or he just loves making these kinds of brainless character interactions.

The art is good, and as some people said the storyline is original, but that's the only good thing you can't look on Edvard Munch "Scream" and say how good the movie it is, because it isn't a movie. So for this manga I also can't possibly put a high mark because manga is original and nicely drawn but is terrible in character communications.

Not depressing

This isn't a tragic/depressing/horrifying psychological manga. It's more of a shounen about superpowers. Trust me, you won't get too sad reading this either, I'm up to chapter 10 so far and am happy with the way things are going smile No one you really get attached too is quickly killed off, so so far the manga is fine.

edit: wtf...Now I'm very curious. I've been following the rapid updated lately, and was getting the feeling that it ends on volume 9, perhaps with an epilogue in volume 10 or something. But whoa, I see it's up to 15 volumes in country of origin? biggrin AWESOME!

So to sum it up, my comment is: This manga doesn't have an abrupt ending, and it isn't depressing, yippers!

This manga is awesome! The problem is... I don't see how it goes from a suicidal dark theme to a typical save the princess plot, but it's really good.

Impressive

Artwork is very impressive, concept is refreshing, characters... slightly stereotypical, but then so many things have been done before it's hard to have truly original characters. At least they're likeable.
As mentioned, there are one or two slightly morbid scenes (suicide is never really pretty) but they don't go overboard with the gore.
Storyline looks like it is progressing quite well, there's a purpose behind everyones actions, and an eagerness to find out what they are going to do.

I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoyed the likes of Biomeat, king of thorns, Highschool of the dead, and similar.

just wonder if the power of the priest is pertrification when he touchs someone, so in chap 25 when the car exploded, he grabbed Yuta and nothing happened ? hah, shouldn't care about small stuff like that but it's really an awesome manga in my fave list
