Description
Ten is a friendly guy who happens to be good at Mahjong. Or, more appropriately, good at cheating at Mahjong. If someone is betting on a Mahjong game and ends up in a pinch, they call Ten to win for them. He always does, and because he understands how frustrating it is, always has the courtesy to give the people he cheats against a chance to beat him up. With his friends Hiroyuki, Ken, Akagi, and others, he eventually decides to take on something much bigger than cheating in small gambles.

Absolutely Amazing

The true beginning of Fukumoto's genius. The mahjong and gambling starts off a bit slow, but once a "certain" character appears, the suspense racks up quickly. It's obvious that a knowledge of mahjong (even at a basic level) would increase one's appreciation of this manga tenfold, but even those looking for some quick suspense would love this. As for the art, that's just the way Fukumoto draws. Learn to love it, as before long it'll be the ONLY way you can see those characters. Any other way would be weird.
This is a bit irrelevant but the ending is one of the most emotional moments I have ever experienced throughout my manga-reading career. And given that I read A LOT (read: hundreds) of manga, it is really saying something.

To add to penguin71's review:
The ending - the final <3v arc - was utterly spectacular, and surprisingly deep.
Also, I was impressed by the level of the discussion, considering it happened no later than ~2002. Really insightful.
