Beautiful story!

I read this manga in a little under a week... 27 volumes! I was hooked solid for the first three days, and then my interest was still piqued enough to continue but I wasn't AS hooked on it. I'm a big romance genre person, and the fact that my expectations weren't met romance-wise after three days kind of put me off. But, it's still a very good read! DEFINITELY worth the award that it was given.

Epic

The story is epic (It's Berserk meets Romeo & Juliet, now tell me if its not epic?) The romance is bittersweet (She fell in love with Shuri without knowing
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
that he is the red king who is responsible for the massacre of her village & the death of her father & brother
) & character developments was superb.(A good example would be Shuri). I really recommend this to all who apreciate a good masterpiece!

Ps: I'm so sad that the anime of this manga have just 13 episodes. It definitely deserves a lot of attention unlike other crappy shojos or shounens out there.

It's predictable yet still keeps you on edge

It's predictable. Once you read a few chapters you understand that. The development is also predictable but the way the mangaka has put it, and all those tiny details in between are amazing. It transforms the whole thing into a fairy tail. It's definitely a must-read.

Good... Bad... Good...?

I felt like... the begginning was very good. There was decent development of character even though thing's were INCREDIBLY PREDICTABLE
It appears that sometimes it's really good.
Then it goes REALLY slow. Where there is very little plot or character development and it's just Sarasa whining over her love life.
The art is very good and the love story behind it is too but I feel like the manga ka can only do one at a time and can't focus on both the same time.

Basara is a beautiful work, and the award(s?) it won were well deserved. It has a cuttingly realistic plot, full of burning truths and violent inspiration.

It is dark.

This is NOT, in any way shape or form, a good starting manga. Firstly, because if one starts with the best, there's nowhere to go but down. But also because you will never forget it. Each of the character's stories will be branded into your memory, and each loss will leave scars on your heart. Proceed with caution. This is a work that will stay with you for a lifetime.

BEST manga I've ever read. I loved it so much. I still do. I'm constantly trying to find a manga like this but can't seem to find one as good, but I think Red River was alright but definitely not as good.
The plot was great, the type I love most. (Where they are rivals but fell in love with each other)
I love the characters. Both Sarasa and Shuri were strong, like seriously strong and that's what I love in main characters. Physically and emotionally strong. I loved their cute interactions when they didn't know who each other was. I loved how Shuri was very cold towards other people but treated her so specially.
The ending was satisfying enough for me, at least it was better than the ending in Red River.
I'm planning to reread this series in the school holidays~~
This series definitely deserves a 10!

I started this series a while ago, I loved it, but never touched for 8 years. I finally got around to rereading it and watching the small anime adaption. Still gold
Finding a heroine in a shoujo manga that is truly likable is hard enough, but finding a manga that allows the male lead to actually mature from a great character to an epic one is tough. I love Sarasa, Shuri, Ageha, Asagi, ChaCha, Hayato just every character thats makes its way into the series is so likable in their own way.
And the plot. Epic fantasy is my favorite book genre, and for a series as long and complex as this it definitely lives up to the hype. (though not much to the fantasy aspect to the series except for prophets)
Cant really put into words how good the plot is. (its gets a bit overloaded with the regions of japan so that was a bit confusing)
Overall I'm really happy i reread the series from the start, and that it was still as good as I remember it

Basara is a no ordinary manga. It is one of those classic manga that you'll be proud to say that you've read it. What I love about this manga are the characters, because they're so rounded. Every one deserves their happy ending after all the suffering they have gone through, Even the villains had their share of hardships that you'll understand why they've done those horrible things. You'll hate the villains but you'll sympathize with them at the end. The love story is soooo beautiful, it's like reading a classic novel.

You are not shoujo hardcore fan if you have not read this rare gem. And Even though there is a tragedy tagged, I assure you that the ending is the best ending out of all the complete manga i've read so far.

I gave this manga a 10 because of the storyline. I wouldn't say that it's the best and even though the story is great, with many well developed characters I still find that the main character is a bit...undeveloped. yes, she might be carry a huge burden but she always acts recklessly without learning from her mistakes and I find that very disturbing. I wanted to see her grow and think before she acts but I don't see that in her. She might be brave and all but sometimes it makes me wanna smack her. Especially in the beginning of the story. For the rest, they're pretty awesome and all. For some reason, I feel sorry for Shidou. But anyway, this is quite a good manga, although I don't know if you're gonna be like me who kept on wanting to smack Sarasa in every chapter.

I, as many others, had this on my list for soooo long and kept putting it off (part of the reason is that it said "tragedy" and i just CANT HANDLE tragic endings... but this ending wasnt tragic it was perfect!)

I wish I could give it greater than a 10, it makes me want to go through my list and drop some of my ratings to 9 because they have paled in comparison to Basara. The story is so amazing, and the character development is absolutely phenomenal. Some longer series make me rather impatient and feel like I just want to get to the end and get it over with, but I savored every last bit of Basara. It drags you in so much and tugs and pulls at your emotions the whole time. So many times I was tearing up and so afraid that I would just HATE HATE HATE the ending.... I am glad to be proven wrong because everything was prefect smile

I couldn't stop reading the end of the series so here I am at 6am haven't slept yet and I am writing the review lol. ITS JUST THAT GREAT! In my top 5 for sure now!

PS I do wish they did a follow up story for chacha and her romantic endeavors as they did for many of the characters

PPS everything keeps reminding me of this story!! Listening to "Lies" by Trifonic and even now I am thinking uuwaaahhh sarasa and shuriiiiiii!
