Nanami transfers to St. Marivel (Mary Bell) High School from America as she looks for her childhood friend, Kotaro. In a school where the ratio of male students to female students is 1:20 respectively, Nanami gets involved in a conflict with a male student who is almost twice her size. As Nanami was about to engage in battle, she catches a glimpse of Kotaro and stops, allowing the male student to grab hold of her! How will she get out of this situation?

Nana Mix! is a standard ecchi, harem type Manga. Filled with rather Superb artwork, and the individual characters themselves are constructed pretty well. I, personally, liked the manga as a whole. However, there are some drawbacks that are blatantly obvious once the reader is done, assuming one gets that far.

The first, is that the second half of the manga just feels...rushed. As though Akane Kotetsu was told that the manga was being shunted out of existence, and she tried to at least wrap up the story arc before it's inevitable demise. while the last chapter was you regular semi-open-ending, the rest of the second half just made no sense. The Second, is the lopsided character the story itself. For example, you'll learn LOADS about nanami, the female lead in the story, but little if not NOTHING about the Kotaru the male lead in the story. You'll learn only what is needed for the given situation -which may consist of a single event- and then that'll be it. There's no Exploration of Kotaru's past, his mannerism, or his personality. Same with other characters, such as Yoko and Kira. Not to mention Nanami's Gandfather. In story Character development is seemingly focused on Nanami. Perhaps if the above scenario (the rushed ending to wrap it up) is in fact truth, then we may have seen more character building had the manga lasted longer than just 18 chapters, see more of what makes Kotaru Youko and Kira -especially Kira- tick. Third is the extreme subtlety of the romance. One can feel the prolonged plans of the Manga when they realize that...the romantic progress is slow...painstakingly slow. Yet as mentioned before, if the above mentioned scenario is truth, any possible romance is left to the semi-open ending and up to fanfiction writers to complete.

As for pluses...I am Tad Bit biased. I Like to laugh, and Romantic Comedies with very good art always makes me enjoy the a series. I personally like the Comedy the in the Nana Mix. Which ranks it high in my book. It has a lot of fanfiction material, which makes it susceptible to both good and bad writers. So, overall the manga is average , in my honest opinion, but certain things make it interesting enough for me to continue reading till the end.

The art is very good but the plot was terrible. What is more for a romance manga it had no romanace development at all - what you see is the main hero and heroine walking in circles and then in the very last chapter the time skip happens and they are suddenly a couple. But before that the most you would get would be heroine being kissed by a lesbo girl.

In other words romance is zero.

The whole evil organization thing felt rushed and so out of place that even six year old kid should find it retarded,

And to top that you get a wuss hero like hundreds of others completely plain and forgettable.

Even great artwork is not enough to save this nonsense.

really dumb. I know it's only 3 volumes long and so there's not much room for character development and an intricate plot. However, around the 12th chapter or so the characters, their interactions, and their motives all get jumbled up in a really pointless struggle. The story would have been better without the inclusion of the evil organization and as good as the art may be, it can not carry the story. Read this if you like to waste time.

While I'm not one to read ecchi manga (die-hard shoujo fan biggrin ), this manga is a bit different. To be honest, even without the ecchi, it would be just as funny. But whatever...
Anyway, perhaps I'm just biased, since my group does this...but I give this series 8.5 out of 10 (is that possible?). A lot of it is predictable, but so are more or less ALL manga. I just wish the girls weren't so blatantly dumb. =_= I have my moments, but geez...
I would suggest that you read this--Nanami's an oddball with a strange past, and an even stranger train of thought. smile
