My username says it all. Sleeper hit shonen title as the Japanese fans put it back in the day that got cancalled 100 chapters in. Great Twilight Zone homage with interesting stories that make you think about the raw evil of society. Who cares if the hostess plays a part in the story? This is more than merely some gameshow its a very cult orientated tale thats more than meets the eye. DEFINITELY not mediocre and above many horror esque manga in the demographics thats for sure. Havent read it all in a longggg time but each cases surprises cause they arent all that simple and fairly unique.

It's a bunch of supernatural horror-esque stories that tries a little too hard to push some sort of moral. Bad guys almost always lose. If it's this predictable, what's the point? Another annoyance is that the narrator plays an active role in the stories. You just don't do that in these kind of stories. You just don't.

Very very mediocre. If by some chance you happen to stumble upon this as your first horror manga then maybe it could scare you a bit, might even make it hard to fall asleep. If you've read good horror manga before and want a quick fix: Turn back! This has nothing for you.

All the stories are predictable and not enough innocent people are getting unjustly tortured. That may sound creepy, but you'll have to read it to find out just how boring it is to have only the evil people lose. At first I thought the mangaka was messing around with the readers, giving us some happy endings before getting real dark. But no, almost every story has a happy ending. Some of them are even "Ride off into the sunset with the perfect girlfriend, new car and a million dollars in cash" happy.

tldr: If you're not bored out of your skull, skip it!

Oh and SliverStorm is unfortunately very right. The "hostess" is basically a character in the manga. In most of the stories she's annoyingly present and directly affecting the plot, even changes the damn outcomes. That's a big horror no no. She's not the "hostess" she's the main freakin character.
